I have seen a banjo played in movies but have never really heard one played in person. I have seen numerous pictures of this circular stringed musical instrument with a very distinct tune set apart from the guitar. It belongs to the string musical instruments. It can have 4, 5 or even 6 strings. The round body is either covered with an animal skin or plastic to give it a more resonating and distinct sound as compared to the hollow sound of the acoustic guitar. This small musical instrument is often associated to these types of music genre: bluegrass, traditional Irish, country and folk.
