DIY Hill Billy Halloween Costume

Halloween is the one of the most fun events that I look forward to every year. Being an expat in the Middle East, I just appreciate people who still make their Halloween as fun, colourful, and interesting as others all over the world would do with theirs. And since it is fast approaching, party goers and Trick or Treaters are scrambling for the perfect Halloween costume to wear.

For some, the scarier their costumes are, the better. Others prefer the common ones like dressing up as royalties, superheroes and superheroines, cartoon characters, sports jocks and cheer leaders, celebrities, political figures, villains, monsters, vampires, zombies, cowboys and cowgirls, and as professionals in the corporate world or society like doctors, teachers, nurses, to name a few. Others come as novelty objects like kitchenwares, money bill, food, and gadgets. While these costumes I have mentioned are interesting and utterly colourful and fun, buying them may cost you an arm and a leg!

The whole intention of doing your own costume is to cut on cost, and explore your creative streak. Your Halloween costume need not break your bank too. It should be cost savvy, easy to put together, and something you may already have in your closet.

One of the many DIY Halloween costume I can think of is the Hill Billy fellow. It is such an interesting character with lots of personality to boast!

All you need are the following and of course, you can simply change the style a bit depending on your preference.

Checkered of plaid shirt
Loose jeans or overalls
Suspenders if you have no overalls
Tattered or old boots
Straw hat or even fedora!
A pipe or a hay straw to chew on
A bandana or scarf if you have one
Fake buck teeth you can buy for less than a $
A banjo or big jug for added effect

And when you are all dressed up, you can now practice your hee haw!

Organizing Halloween Party for the Kids

Halloween is just around the corner! It is supposed to be scary and spooky. However, we cannot deny the fact that kids just love it! They love Halloween! And they especially love Halloween parties!

Organizing your own Halloween party to invite your kids’ classmates and friends and all the kids in the neighborhood would be so much fun! This article will give you some tips and guidelines to help you. No tricks, just pure fun treats to ensure that your party is going to be a hit.

Come up with a theme

Yes, Halloween is usually about monsters and vampires and other scary creatures but not so much anymore. These days, this event is more like the one time in a year that everyone is allowed to wear whatever costumes they like without being judged. So think about your own theme. Is it going to be a superhero theme, will you go for a fairytale, a zombie apocalypse or would you still prefer the old school spooky party with Frankenstein, the vampire, ghosts, witches, wizards and others.

Impress with the invitation

Once you’ve come up with the theme for your party, it’s time to create and distribute your invitations. Make sure to include important details in the invites including the venue, date, and theme and of course the dress code. This will ensure that your guests will come prepared with their costumes. That will make the party more fun and exciting!

Prepare candies, chocolates and more treats

Kids love Halloweens because it’s overflowing with candies and chocolates, so be sure to give these treats to them at the party. It would be a great idea to pack assorted treats for each guest to make sure that they get fair share of treats. Also, prepare treats and gifts for the games.

Arrange a perfect venue

Design the venue with appropriate props to make the party more spooky but fun.  You can come up with scary ideas but be sure to remember that you have kids as your guests so don’t go overboard scary – scary enough would suffice.

Come up with fun games for the kids

A kid’s party is not complete without the games. Make sure to come up with fun games that they will enjoy. Here are some examples:

Wrap the Mummy

Guests will be divided into teams and each team will be given a tissue paper. One representative each team will serve as the “mummy” and the rest of the team members will use the roll of tissue paper to dress their “mummy”. Most creative “mummy” after the given time will win.

Piñata

More candies for the kids! This game of treasure hunt is always a sure hit in any party.

Witches Broom Limbo

Play some limbo rock using a witch’s broom. Divide the guests into teams and the one that gets pass the lowest limbo mark wins the game.

Stop the dance

Classic games still work! And isn’t it fun to see those kids in costumes dancing and stopping when the music turns off? It’s a picture-perfect moment!

DIY Pizza Rat Costume

Looking for a fun, simple, easy-to-assemble costume for this Halloween— that's also a hilarious pun? The clever creative team at BuyCostumes came up with a great idea for a Pizza Rat costume. It's a total hat tip to the Pizza Rat video that's gone crazy viral (if you haven't seen it, just search "pizza rat" and it'll come right up).  This is a great idea and slightly different too! It's a deviation from the famous costumes you will be seeing prancing around during Halloween time.

You can take this costume to any level you like. All you really need to make your own Pizza Rat costume are a gray hoodie and pants, a mouse nose and ears, and piece of pizza. You can also draw a quick rat nose and whiskers onto your face with a black makeup pencil if you'd prefer that route. And a rat tail can be DIY’ed with something as simple as a shoelace or length of clothesline tucked into the back of your belt.

As for the pizza, it can be real or fake; it doesn’t matter. Of course, carrying around a real piece of pizza might get kinda gross after a while ... just a thought. You can also create your own giant piece of pizza with foam board from the craft store or ordinary corrugated cardboard. Just cut out a vague triangular shape, and use some markers to draw toppings. It doesn’t have to be perfect – this is a last-minute costume idea, remember?

And if you want to be seriously authentic, wear your mouse accessories with a pizza costume. It doesn’t matter if nobody gets it: you know you’re hilarious.

Hearts and Haunts for Halloween: Scary Celebrating for Couples

Many couples, especially those without children, have trouble figuring out what to do on Halloween. Here are some fun ideas that won’t make you feel like you’ve outgrown this spooktacular holiday.

Go Trick-Or-Treating

What ever happened to good old trick-or-treating? Seriously. If Halloween is known for anything, it’s getting free candy from strangers. The practice isn’t as common as it used to be, but many people still do it.

Make costumes or buy one and take your sweetie out for a night of fun. If you’re making your own, you can save a lot of money. If you’re not very crafty, go to a consignment shop. You can usually pick up something fairly cheap - perhaps for under $10.

You could also buy used costumes from classified ads or auctions. Trade with a friend, keep it simple with face paint.

Tour A Haunted House

Going to a haunted house usually doesn’t cost a lot of money. Many of them are free. Of course, if a place is charging $10 a head, you might want to rethink it.

But, nearly every city has at least one, usually several. So, shop around and keep your eye open for free or nearly-free visits.

When you do go, hold hands. And, if you’re going with your man, make a point of getting scared (even if it’s not that scary). Let your man be the brave one “protecting” you from all of the scary ghouls. Men: time to be brave. Protect your lady.

Go Through A Corn Maze

A corn maze is fun, scary, and cheap. While they aren’t as common as they once were, there’s still plenty of them to explore - especially if you live in the country. Sure, if you’re walking through an organized event that charges admission, it can cost a lot, but many of them don’t. Corn mazes are something you probably did when you were a kid and just forgot about.

For some, there’s nothing better than spending a night amongst the corn with the love of your life. Get lost in the dark and bump into a scarecrow or two. By the time you’re done having fun, the sun might be up.

See A Movie At A Drive-In

This is the quintessential “dinner and a movie” play, but on Halloween, it can be a lot of fun, especially if you dress up for it. Costumes don’t have to be complicated either. Many of them are easy and awesome - even for guys.

Scary movies are also a great way for you to get closer to each other, and test each other’s mental fortitude. Can he really handle a scary movie? Will she cower and bury her head into your shoulder?

Drive-ins are also a little bit nostalgic. Think about it. You get to sit there in your car, eating popcorn and drinking soda, tuning in your radio to listen to the movie.

And, if you get bored, there’s plenty of other things you can do.

A plain or patterned-print shirt, some pens, an old fashioned eyeglasses with tape, some books as props and a very slick hair will surely make you look like a nerd

This one is an easy ensemble. Check for any loose cardigan, plain dark colored skirt, a white shirt, some ribbons, long socks and black shoes

Gangster/Mafia hitman
