Being a Godmother

Godmothers are like second mothers to other people you sponsor in baptism, confirmation and wedding. If you have been blessed enough to be asked as a godmother, take pride and joy in it because being a godmother is a blessing.

I have a lot of godchildren from baptism rites. Few weeks ago, I have been promoted to the next stage of sponsoring. I am now a godmother for a confirmed child and I am happy to stand as a second mother to this kid because I know I can share and show good example and give guidance to the child as I would my own.

I remember many years ago about my own confirmation when I stood in front of the bishop and vowed to always accept the Holy Spirit in my heart. The role was reversed lately. I was standing on the sponsor side to witness the confirmation of my daughter's friend in school. I soaked in the atmosphere of being a sponsor this time. And I listened intently to the celebrant's homily and imbibed the words of Christ.

I am proud to stand as a godmother because I know I fit the bill to be a mom. It is something I will cherish each time a family member or friend asks me to become a godmother to their child. It is an honor and I will gladly accept the role.

Gospel Music

I enjoyed the recent church mass service I attended when I stood as a godmother to my daughter's friend in the Sacrament of Confirmation. I loved the atmosphere so much, so serene and yet you can feel the happiness around the kids being confirmed to the faith.  I listened to the gospel music played by the choir. I am very impressed on the technology the music industry has brought to the modern times.

The choir have top of the line string instruments, organs, tech 21 power engine amplifiers, wireless mics and surround speakers. The songs they played were heightened because of these hi-tech musical accessories which were not even present when I was growing up.

These modern gadgets in the music world surely made music better, if not, best in one's auditory experience a very pleasant one. And what's more satisfying not just in one's hearing but in one's soul were the beautiful gospel songs played by the choir. I feel the lyrics touched my heart as the songs made me feel serene.

Fund Raising - A Noble Cause

For most who are financially endowed than others is a blessing in itself. I am glad that I am surrounded by people who earn 10 times than I do and still, they go out of their way to rasie money for church and other communities. I see their generosity in an intangible manner. I am sure their recipients are very thankful for the blessing in various forms.

Some of the people I work with have very big and kind hearts. They offer portion of their salary to build and raise schools and churches for the under-privileged in Third World countries. Others sponsor a family and send their "adopted" children to school by sending regular remittances. Some of my colleagues even do candle fundraiser, bake sale, rummage sale, car-boot sale, donations and collection drives to send to worthy organizations in much need of assistance.

Pooling our resources to be of help to others is such a noble cause. As early as now, I am already building my daughter's social awareness by joining volunteer work and contributing to worthy causes and civic drives. I also enlist the help of my friends who are active in church by getting their church fundraising ideas. I also get opinions from others who have done this kind of activity on ways to engage other people to contribute and offer their time, effort and financial assistance.

Giving is more important than receiving. The little things we do and give to our brethren are the things which make all these very worthwhile.
