Grimsvotn Volcano Eruption

Grimsvotn Volcano erupted in Iceland on Saturday, May 21. This eruption is far greater than the one last year but may not be as wide-spread as Eyjafjallajokull. The eruption last year caused a major international chaos in the aviation industry as most European airports were shut down due to the ash fall and low to zero visibility.

Saturday's eruption sent plume of ash, smoke and steam as far as 20 kilometers to the air. Aviation officials are closely monitoring the situation. Hopefully, the eruption will last not longer than last year.

    Looks like this will cause more global warming since the dark colored ash will deposit light absorbing dust on the snow of Northern Europe. The light will now be absorbed instead of being reflected back into space.

    The ash in Grimsvotn is coarser than and not as likely to cause danger as it falls to the ground faster and doesn't stay as long in the air as in the Eyjafjallajokull eruption."
