Lonesome George was discovered in Pinta Island in 1972 and it was believed that tortoises of his kind was already extinct. So, Lonesome George had been in the park service's program since then.
The park service said that it would honor the last Pinta Island tortoise by convening an international workshop regarding management strategies to restore tortoise population over the next decade this coming July.
So long Lonesome George. I am sure you won't be lonesome anymore...
