The 7-Minute Workout For The Busy People

It is hard to make an excuse when it is only to spare 7 minutes of our time in a day to engage in activities that will enhance our health and wellbeing. 7 minutes. It can't be that hard, right?

Well, good news for everyone who is always busy, always have an excuse to miss gym sessions or not to exercise, always forgetting to devote time to be physically fit, and those who just have lazy behinds like myself. I am guilty! So, when I saw this free 7-minute workout in the web and watched how easy it is to follow them, I feel so ashamed. I practically have no more excuse to make after watching it. I take more time sitting, thinking of what to eat for dinner compared to getting myself dressed for a good workout and actually engaging on the 7-minute workout.

Visit the Well Workouts (site: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/projects/workouts/) developed by the New York Times especially for busy folks like us. I am not sure if it was created by Gretchen Reynolds as her name appears on the workout diagram but I give credits to her and NYC Times for this amazing compilation of easy-to-follow movements to help me and you to get going.

There are 2 kinds of 7-minute workout available in the site.

Scientific 7-minute workout

According to the site, it consists of 12 exercises using your body weight, a chair and a wall. I can live with that!

Advanced 7-minute workout

This is the more intense and demanding workout out of the two in the site. It requires you to have dumbbells. It also takes only 7-minutes to complete the routine.

The site comes with a choice of 2 voice overs, Phoebe, your female cheerer or Alastair, your male voice coach. And if you want silence, just the visuals, then you can disable the voice over as you please.

This 7-minute workout is a great routine and they are not complicated unlike the other fitness videos I have seen before.  Now, I don't have any reason not to exercise even for just few minutes in a day.

Simple Wellness Strategies That Can Improve The Quality Of Your Life

If you want to get healthy, it's important to know that the process will not transpire sporadically or magically. Rather, it will result from the consistent implementation of wellness principles that work. While there are a wide range of wellness strategies that can help take your quality of life from average to awesome, you may find the following three techniques particularly helpful:

1. Take Care Of Your Teeth.

As many health experts know, the body is a connected system. This means that optimizing one aspect of it will typically result in an upgrade of your entire physiological system's functioning. With that idea in mind, you should make sure that you are taking care of your teeth. Doing so will help optimize your physical appearance and can lead to other health benefits, such as a decreased risk of heart disease. In addition to having an annual or semi-annual check-up, be sure that you're reading up on dental-related issues. Organizations like the JIADC (Journal of Implant & Advanced Clinical Dentistry) provide the public with a journal of dental implantology featuring helpful, health-related information.

2. Optimize Your Diet.

As many health and medical authorities know, most Americans do not eat a diet that is conducive to wellness and optimal functioning of the body. However, you don't have to be a member of this group. By optimizing your diet right now, you can start reaping some of the awesome benefits that result from filling your body with all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients it needs to function correctly. One great way to start the diet optimization process is by clearing out your refrigerator and cupboard of processed foods. By replacing your kitchen area with healthy options like fresh fruits and vegetables, you can increase the likelihood that you'll actually eat these items on a regular basis.

3. Work Out.

Working out is one of the simplest and most effective ways to take your health to a new level. There are several wellness benefits that you can obtain from implementing and sticking to a regular workout program. Some of them include:

-mood regulation
-osteoporosis prevention
-depression relief
-chronic fatigue prevention
-colon cancer prevention
-constipation relief
-chronic pain reduction
-enhanced immunity

Conclusion
If you're tired of lethargy, headaches, bad moods, or any other symptoms that result from bad health, now is the time to implement the behavioral changes necessary to thrive inside your body. You can use some or all of the wellness techniques listed here to get the process going!

Review - Nutrabear Vit. D 3 Gummies #nutrabear

I have received this product for free in exchange of my honest feedback.

My daughter prefers chewing her vitamins so I always buy her the chewable kind. I am glad to have tried this Nutrabear Vit. D3 gummies because I like the taste a lot! Even my daughter likes the taste. That's the first thing I liked about this Vitamin D3 gummies. It's also chewable so need to pop those pills or tablets that are sometimes difficult to swallow. They are sweet but not much and you can taste the peach and cherry flavours too.

It comes in 120 gummies so it's great for my family as we can share this supplement. This is a good supplement to take because we all need our daily dosage of Vit. D and taking these gummies provided us the required dosage.

Another plus factor is that this is good for vegetarians too. It does not contain any gelatin. It is also gluten free.

This supplement is also good in boosting immune system and supports bone health. So, we are taking these gummies regularly!

Coosh Upper Arm Digital Blood Pressure Monitor Review #Coosh

I received this product for free in exchange of my honest feedback.

This is another model of the Coosh Upper Arm Digital Blood Pressure monitor that I have received to review/evaluate.  The other one was the simpler model but this one has more memory capacity (90) versus the simpler model which only has 30 memory capacity. The monitor of this Coosh Upper Arm Digital Blood Pressure monitor has a backlight whereas the simpler Coosh monitor does not have.

Backlight and large LCD display
©www.riablahgs.com

Between the two, this monitor rates better because it is easy to use, lightweight, has big display for the reading/measurements and has its own carry case. The simple model does not have a case.

It takes measurement fast too and in less than 2 minutes, you are done with your reading. You have to use 4 AA batteries for this monitor to work.

It also has the WHO indicator near the display so you can gauge where your blood pressure reading falls. I like this product and will continue to use because of its easy functions and features.

I recommend this blood pressure monitor and I think it is beneficial to those who need to monitor their blood pressure for health reasons like myself.

You can purchase this product from Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Coosh-Digital-Pressure-Capacity-Certified/dp/B00VVS7ADA/ref=cm_rdp_product/186-1482371-1267766

Review - Vita Sciences Natural Muscle & Joint Pain Relief Cream #JointRight

I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased feedback.

I have tried the Vita Sciences Natural Muscle & Joint Pain Relief Cream and I am happy with how it helped relieve the slight pain I feel in my ankle area.  I just came from a week-long vacation and it entailed plenty of walking, and climbing stairs. I usually get achy feet and ankles after long walks and I'm glad that the creme has been beneficial to alleviate the slight pain.

The cream comes in white colour with a slight cool effect after few seconds of application. I am not sure if others who have tried this product have that kind of sensation. I felt that slight cooling effect. I had to apply few times in a day but not putting more than what is required and indicated in the box.

As for the fast-acting relief,  I felt it working after few minutes from the time I have applied the cream.

I also like this  cream because it does not have any menthol scent and yet the menthol/cooling effect is very effective. This is really helpful for me because I have allergic reactions to most pain reliever medications. So, applying pain reliever topically is usually the best option for me. Vita Sciences Natural Muscle & Joint Pain Relief Cream does the work for me.

I will recommend this product because it is odourless and has cooling effect that relieves slight pain ad aches. It also contains aloe, vitamin E, B-5 and Chamomile which has soothing properties. It is also free from paraben.

The plastic container has a pump dispenser and one pump dispenses the right amount to apply on the affected area.  It comes in a 50 ml plastic container with clear plastic cap.

You can purchase this product from Amazon.

Review - COOSH CBPM002 Upper Arm Digital Blood Pressure Monitor #Coosh #AmazonReview

** I have received this product for free for evaluation purposes. My feedback/finding is 100% mine and may vary from yours.

I have hypertension and a blood pressure monitor is a staple in our home.  I have to monitor my blood pressure everyday to ensure I don't go to the "red zone" which is a high reading of systolic and diastolic.

I am currently using a semi-digital/automatic blood pressure (Omron) but I find it difficult to pump the rubber tube to make the monitor work and read my pressure. I have to thank Coosh for giving me this opportunity to try the Coosh Digital Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor because it is a great product to use.

What I like:
It is very easy to use. You just press the on/off button and it automatically starts pumping air to fill the arm band.

It is lightweight and not bulky.

It has WHO (World Health Org.) classification bar indicator on the apparatus to show if your reading is in the green (normal), amber (pre-hypertension) and red (high) zone.

It reads measurement fast.

It has a memory that can store 30 measurements.

It has large and very clear LCD display.

What I don't like:
Nothing. I like this product a lot, better than the hi-tech, well-known brands I have used in the past.

Where to buy:
You can purchase this product from Amazon.

Specifications:
Measuring range: Pressure  (30-280) mmHG / Pulse  (40-199) beat/min
Power supply: 4 x 1.5 v batteries or AA

My recommendation:
I highly recommend this product. It is very easy to use and convenient.

Budget Laboratory Testing from Personalabs

This post was created in partnership with eAccountable. All opinions are my own.

istock000011084458medium_118843_l.jpg

Are you worried that you have allergies, but know that a doctor’s visit, testing and follow-up will be too costly and time consuming? Instead you suffer with the sniffling and sneezing, hoping that it's just a seasonal thing. Or maybe you're concerned about exposure to STDs, but want a discreet and less expensive way to get peace of mind. Perhaps, you're in need of a pregnancy test or a complete female health checkup. Maybe, you want to check on that fatigue, or the effect your stressful job has been having on your body.

Our body has its way of telling us when to slow down. We may not see the initial signs but sometimes we can feel something is wrong or unusual. Why wait for our body to give way when we can practice caution and prevention? If we can prevent now then we are assured of saving more money and most importantly, saving our health. Besides, health is wealth!

Busy Americans are finding new ways to be frugal, but at the same time there is more emphasis than ever on preventive medicine. However, people also know that it can be costly to do all the testing necessary to properly diagnose health issues before they become serious problems.

The SmartGlobalHealth.org estimates that by 2030, the number of people with Diabetes (currently more than 180 million worldwide) will double to 366 million. Cancer incidence increased globally between 1990 and 2000 and is projected to increase further by 50%, to more than 15 million new cancer patients by 2025.

Traditional lab testing can be a very time consuming and costly process (source: debt.org) It requires a visit to a doctor, the doctor ordering specific tests, patients then taking those orders to a lab facility to be completed, and then patients scheduling another follow-up visit with their doctor to get the lab results.

Personalabs provides consumers with an improved, alternative way to get those results, while saving money and time.

Personalabs management service allows patients to go their website (Personalabs.com), find the test they are interested in (more than 300 tests available), place their order and Personalabs will send them a doctor's order within 60 seconds. Questions or concerns? No problem. There are Customer Care Specialists standing-by to help.

Personalabs has doctors registered in 50 states. You print the confirmation order and take that to one of the 1,700 lab facilities located nationwide. The lab takes your sample (whether it’s blood, urine, stool or semen) and you can leave knowing that you’ve completed your part and Personalabs has you covered the rest of the way! The lab tests your sample and within 24-48 hours (some tests are more extensive and may take up to 7-10 days), you will receive an e-mail advising that your results are ready. You then sign into our secure Personalabs Patient Portal to view your results.

Benefits of using Personalabs:
  • If you require discretion, Personalabs offers a 100% confidential service-Your results are sent to your private account, viewable only by you.
  • If you need results quickly-You can place your order using a computer, mobile device (iPad, tablet or cell phone) or by calling 1-888-438-5227 to place your order with one of our Customer Care Specialists. You can visit the lab immediately and your results become available to you directly.
  • If you have little time-There is no waiting time, you do not need to book an appointment as they are not necessary. You just go to one of the lab testing centers with your confirmation order and get tested.
  • If you need to get the results to your doctor-Personalabs offers a service whereby you can share your results directly with your doctor, if you wish.
  • Using this service as part of your regular healthcare-Don’t wait for small issues to turn into big issues. Take an active role in managing your healthcare.
Personalabs accepts all major credit cards, PayPal (including Buy Now, Pay Later), Amazon Checkout, FSA cards and all pre-paid gift cards.

We currently do not accept any form of health insurance as our blood test prices are the lowest available on the market. Personalabs saves you money and is cheaper than the actual premium you would pay to your insurance provider. We do, however, offer the ability to provide you with an insurance admissible receipt. You can use that to claim back funds from your insurance company.

What are you waiting for? Take an active role in your healthcare. Get the blood tests you need and results quickly for much less than traditional testing.

Natural Home Remedies To Calm Your Upset Stomach

Photo not mine

Sometimes we get too stressed or nervous that our stomach can also feel the tension. It has happened to me many times like before a presentation or when going through an interview. However, you don't always grab on your medicine box for the Alka Seltzer. Check around your pantry or refrigerator for any of these natural home remedies to calm your upset stomach.

Apples

These fruits are famous for their high content in pectin which helps dissolve irritants in the stomach. It is also high in fibre and lower cholesterol levels.

Cinnamon

Aside from being good to your arteries, cinnamon is also great to settle that upset stomach of yours. Cinnamon stimulates the digestive system to help food move in the digestive tract.  Sprinkle some cinnamon on your cut apples, banana and even  on hot water and drink as a tea.

Plain crackers

Plain crackers are easy to digest to stock up on some plain crackers and bring with you to work or on your next trip just in case you need a quick fix to calm your upset stomach.

Ginger

Ginger is known to relieve nausea. It is also good in calming upset stomach.  You can nibble it fresh if you like or candied. You can even put few slices into a boiling water to serve as ginger tea.

Mint

Mint stimulates digestion which helps the food move in the digestive tract smoothly. The menthol and menthone compounds found in the mint leaves help reduce gastrointestinal spasms.

Green tea

Green tea is another home concoction you can take because it helps settle upset stomach and relieves bloating and gas.

Heat

Lastly, if you have a water bag, you can put hot water inside and put it against your tummy to heat the area.  The heat transfers the perception of pain inside your stomach towards the heated area of the surface of your tummy skin.

Daily Health Habits

Many people don’t feel good. They feel tired. They find it hard to concentrate at work. They have back pain and headaches. There are several conditions that are a direct result of poor health habits, but many people don’t attribute their conditions to their diet and other health habits. What people eat, how much they sleep and other practices substantially affect the way people feel during the day.

The diet a person eats directly impacts how much energy they experience. The sun is a great source of energy. This source of energy is stored by plants. Animals eat these plants and indirectly provide energy to humans when humans eat these animals. However, the further up on the food chain a person eats, the less energy a person will have. For instance, a person is going to have more energy from eating an apple than eating a lobster, which is a scavenger. A diet should consist mostly of fruit and vegetables followed by other sources of food. A big portion of the American diet consists of processed and fast foods, which do not offer significant nutritional value. In addition, people do not eat enough fruit and vegetables.

Exercise is important for health. Besides assisting with weight maintenance, exercise offers many other benefits. For starters, exercise helps the body to remove toxins from the body. The toxins are pushed through the bloodstream and exit the body via sweat. Exercise improves muscle tone to increase strength and range of motion, and exercise promotes bone strength to prevent osteoporosis.

Supplements provide many benefits for people. Some people have conditions, such as lactose intolerance. This can occur when a body is not able to digest enzymes in milk. As a result, the milk sits in the intestines producing gas and other problems. People who have a problem digesting milk may end up having issues with carbohydrates when they eat them as well. By abstaining from milk, this issue is usually resolved. However, by taking a supplement for particular conditions, long-loved foods and drink may still be ingested, such as milk. For instance, click here to view the many type of supplements that can assist the body in wellness.

Mental and emotional health is important too. This affects how people feel in regards to physical health as well. Resolving emotional issues is important because it allows people to resolve their stress, which is the biggest factor of illnesses today. Staying healthy means making daily healthy habits.

10 Great Habits to Beat RA

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakes and attacks its own tissues as foreign invaders, like viruses and bacteria. RA is systemic—it can affect the entire body> RA can affect the heart, the lungs, the eyes and even the vascular system, but most often it affects the joints and the soft tissues surrounding them.

RA’s symptoms can be devastating. Along with fatigue, low fevers and a general malaise, it can cause inflammation, swelling, pain, and permanent disability in the joints. There is no cure. But today there are many medications that treat not only the symptoms—the inflammation and pain—RA causes, but which also slow the disease down to a crawl and keep it from causing joint and organ destruction

Here are 10 great habits to help you live well with rheumatoid arthritis:

1.     Eat a healthy diet. Choose fresh, colorful vegetables; lean meats, chicken and fish; whole grain breads, pasta, and brown rice; low-fat dairy like cheese and yogurt, unsaturated fats like olive and canola oil, and for a treat, fruit.

2.     Get plenty of sleep. Your body can fight and heal better when you’re well-rested. Get up and go to bed at the same time every day. Use your bedroom for sex and sleep only: ban your TV, computer, tablet and smart phone from the room. Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet. And if you still suffer from insomnia, talk to your doctor.

3.     Move your body. Gentle, moderate exercise every day, like range-of-motion stretching and brisk walking strengthen the muscles that support your weight-bearing joints—the hips, knees, ankles and feet. Exercise can help decrease RA pain by helping you reach and maintain a healthy body weight, too.

4.     Be a voracious learner. Absorb everything you can learn about RA. One good source of information is your doctor. Another is the Internet—but use care. The best sources of RA information are the CDC, the NIH, and the ArthritisFoundation.

5.     Live mindfully. Instead of worrying about the future or regretting the past, focus on the now, the present moment. Pause, often, to look for the gifts each day brings all of us. Consider learning mindfulness meditation—a very easy, amazingly effective method to de-stress, re-energize, and manage pain.

6.     Remember to play. RA can stress you out. Give yourself a break! Go out and see a movie, or spend time with good friends. Do things that you enjoy: listen to or make music. Read a book. Pursue a hobby. Have fun.

7.     Put your health first. It’s easy to put off taking care of other aspects of your health when you have RA. But when one part of you is off, it may affect another. Be on top of things: get regular medical and dental check-ups.

8.     Stick to your medication game plan. Your RA medications need to be taken on a regular schedule—and with care. A multi-compartment pill box that you can fill with a week’s worth of morning and evening doses can help you keep track.

9.     Keep pain remedies handy. Even with well-controlled RA, pain can be a real problem. Keep ice packs in the freezer, heat-packs near the microwave. Put salves and lotions where you can get them easily.

1.  Focus on others. When you’re in pain, it’s hard to empathize with others. But empathy works, first by distracting you from your own pain, and second, by reminding you that others might need you as much as you need them.

Health Benefits of Pineapple

To be honest, pineapple is the least fruit I want to eat because it can make my tongue very itchy and there's always no guarantee that what I'll buy from the supermarket is sweet. So, I always pass this up when I buy my fruits in the produce section.

Thinking of its health benefits, I must admit that I do have to consider having pineapple regularly as it packed in nutrients with very little calorie. It is also cholesterol-free and fat-free and is very rich in Vitamin C which helps in lowering your risk in heart disease, cancer, gout, cataracts and stroke.

Since it is packed with vitamins and nutrients, it is good in improving your immune system and strengthen your bones and connective tissues because of its manganese level which is a trace mineral that helps in building and strengthening bones and tissues.

Include pineapples in your snacks or meals daily for a more healthy and nutritious diet.
