My Christmas Gift

I know it is not Christmas season anymore but I still cannot help and gush over my new tablet - bb playbook. I am not a fancy pants but I think and feel that after working hard and following my goals (except for the weight loss part) to the letter, I certainly deserve a Blackberry Playbook.

I thought about buying the gadget for sometime but realized that I can use this when I am in a meeting or when I travel. I can read my ebooks and check my mails too on the go. It is a need for me and not a whim. Even my husband justified the reason why I should have one. I would have preferred it as a gift from him. However, he has already given me a fancy bag so I am happy.

I like this tablet a lot. It's only 7'' and a bit light to carry. It has wifi, bluetooth, Blackberry Bridge which can be used with my Blackberry phone and camera and video. Although the apps are not as many as the iPad, I really don't mind because the basic features are there which are more important than the myriad of apps I won't even use.

GITEX 2011

GITEX is known worldwide as one of the most important electronics event in Dubai. It is a week-long event with other major shopping outlets participating through various drop-down mega-sales of electronics and gadgets for consumers to feast their eyes on. For some with the budget to spare, this is the right time to purchase their dream item.

A lot of gadgets and electronics are being sold on low prices during the GITEX. There are nikon cameras  being sold for DHS 3199 with actual price of around DHS 5000. You actually saved more than a thousand. The package also includes other freebies like lens, SD card and even an LCD TV. Other high ticket items are selling like hot pancakes are the laptops and personal computers, Apple products especially the iPad, smart phones, routers and modems, navigational equipment and the big plasmas, LCDs and LEDs and other medical equipment.

Eid Sale

I just came home from the mall. I went straight to the mall after work to pass away the time and the traffic during Ramadan.

I am a bit surprised to see major boutiques with price reduction and major sale. Normally, the sale happens during Eid or at least few days leading to the holiday. The sale is rather early this time so the malls can get more shoppers.

The sale signs are just everywhere, from shoes to perfumes to clothing to electronics and supermarket. The cigar and magazine shops also carried best cigar deals signs that I don't usually see.

I didn't come home empty-handed. I bought some grocery stuff, dog food, gym ball, skipping rope and an office wear. I wanted to buy clothes for my daughter but I held the thought because next week is the announcement of Eid so more shops will eventually mark their prices down. I will probably wait for that.

A Plasma or LCD?

I really don't care which one as long as I have either of the two HDTV. I am sure my viewing pleasure will be promoted to new heights with the latest technology on the flat screens these days.

My birthday is coming very soon but since we are strapped for cash due to the ongoing recession, I can only wish and dream about owning a Plasma or LCD TV. I have been gawking at the product displays in the electronic shops here for some time now. The Dubai Shopping Festival last month ushered offers of sale up to 50% off the tag price. We can't afford it at the moment. Besides, we still have our old and utterly reliable big TV. Maybe I will wait for the sale next year.

Wonderful Stands and Mounts

I am really born yesterday and that is speaking literally. Kidding aside, I was quite surprised to see the latest gadgets and audio and video equipment like TVs and speakers on mounts and stands which some are built-in and detachable.

Believe it or not, our television set is still that whale-looking set with picture tube. Although we bought our flat-screen TV seven years ago, it is not something comparable to the ones which are out in the market. Wow! The plasma and LCD flat-screens are so magnificent. I can just keep gawking and gawking until my hubby drags me out of the electronics' shop.
