Christmas lights complete a Christmas tree. A Christmas tree is not as sparkly and attractive when not adorned with these little colorful or monochromatic themed lights that make it more interesting.

There are plenty of Christmas lights available in the market these days. There are rope lights, bulbs, traditional mini lights, icicle lights and net lights. And with the numerous selections you have, it will be a bit confusing to know which indoor Christmas lights are right for you. Here are tips to help you choose the perfect Christmas lights for your Christmas tree.



Take your Christmas tree’s size and height into consideration

The bigger the tree the more Christmas lights it needs and the bigger the size of the lights must go with it. A Christmas tree that is just below 5 feet will look too crowded when you put big Christmas lights like the bulbs. Choose the traditional of mini lights to complement the size of the tree. And as your tree becomes bigger, the size of the Christmas lights will have to go bigger too.


Know what color motif you want for your Christmas tree

If you have decided to go multi colored with plenty of splashes of color on your ornaments, you may want to tone it down with a monochromatic Christmas lights. A soft and light yellow will be a nice Christmas lights for a multicolored or block-colored theme Christmas tree. The lights will reflect on the shiny ornaments giving your tree the illusion of a multi-color lights.

You can opt for multi colored Christmas lights for white Christmas trees to accentuate the ornaments and bring more color to the tree’s solid color.


Steady lights, twinkly or one that dances with the music

There are plenty of Christmas lights now that dances to the Christmas tunes which plays from the small box attached to the control of the Christmas lights series. You can buy steady lights only or get a series of Christmas lights that twinkles or consider buying state of the art Christmas lights that also plays music while the Christmas lights dances asynchronous with the music.

And Then There Was Light

I am so bored with our ceiling lights. They are hanging lights which look more of a mini chandelier. I think they are so outdated.

I love contemporary stuff in my living room. However, my husband is the practical one who keeps telling me not to buy expensive items for the flat where we are currently staying at because the place is not ours.

I always remind him that we can take whatever we bought back in the Philippines. I can always rent for a big container if I have too.

I just feel like the lights are so old-fashioned. I want hanging spotlights just like the hanging lamps I saw in the mall last week. They are sleek and uses energy-saving bulbs. I will have to convince my husband though since we are updating the living room; maybe we can also include the lights.

Instant Christmas Bowl Lamp

Need new Christmas decorations at home but you're strapped for cash? Don't fret! There's a solution for that.

If you have an old fish bowl (without the fish of course!) and some tangled and old but working Christmas lights that you want to throw but can't (because you have this inner voice telling you not to...hehehee) then follow what I will have to say.

• Clean the bowl with slightly damp newspaper. Here's a trivia, damp old newspaper cleans spots better than those chemical induced glass cleaner sprays in the market!
• Test your dangled Christmas lights if they are still working. If you need to replace some busted lights, do so.
• Place the tangled Christmas lights inside the bowl.
• Place the bowl on top of your coffee table or on the side table or even in the middle of your dining table!
• Keep an extension nearby if you don't have an electrical outlet near the bowl.
• Plug and switch on! Presto!!!

Dancing Water Fountains

There is something about these dancing water fountains which leave me enthralled. I love the way the water moves with the rhythm of the music and the lights give a dramatic expression on what the water display is depicting. Its choreography is like a whimsical fantasy. I just don't get tired watching the beautiful dance in the form of water.

I haven't seen many dancing fountains in my life yet. Probably just 2, the famous dancing water fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas and recently, the one here in Dubai - at the Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar behind the world's tallest building - Burj Dubai.

Bellagio's famous dancing fountains are widely known but Dubai won't allow to be rated 2nd fiddle. So, whoever orchestrated the construction of this massive dancing water is a genius. The water shoots up really, really high compared to the one in Bellagio. The water forms various shapes depicting the Arab life like the famous Deira Clock Tower. It is fantastic although I must say that Bellagio's dancing fountains may have been the epitomy of what dancing fountains should be around the world. Well, this is my opinion. Like I said, I haven't seen much yet and I will make sure that I will see more.

Viva Las Vegas!

The long, arduous drive to Las Vegas, Nevada was too much for our tushies. Hahahaha. I feel bad for our cousin who drove from San Diego all the way to Vegas without getting any help from any of us. We could pitch in for him but ever gracious that he is, he took charge without bothering us. It was roughly 6 hours drive because we had to stop for food at Barstow.

The weather in Las Vegas was great. They said it gets very humid and hot there too during summer but we were lucky enough to enjoy our vacation with the cold weather of winter's past.

We passed by snow capped mountains which left us in awe. They were beautiful sights to behold! I have never seen anything like that before. Wow!

We arrived in Las Vegas around 3:00 p.m. and was just in time for our check in at Excalibur Hotel. The hotel was so huge with several towers for accommodation. We were billeted at Tower 1 and was not overlooking the main strip.

The hotel is located in the beginning of the strip and has connection to the Las Vegas Monorail. We drove around during the afternoon to enjoy the view during the day. At night, we set out on foot to watch the famous dancing fountains at Bellagio Hotel and to see the famous strip at night. The lights around us were truly captivating!

I played the slot just once on the last day of our stay there. Well, I did not win because if I had, I wouldn't be back here...hahaha. My darling won around $170 on the tables. Lucky him! Instant pocket money eh....

Earth Hour Day 2009

I participated in this event last year by enlisting my family and friends to support the cause. We switched the lights off at home for an hour in observance of the "objective" Earth Hour is promoting. Again, I have enlisted myself in this worthy cause. I am inviting everyone to please participate in this noble task. It won't hurt to switch off the lights for an hour amongst the days in a year. It's just an hour...
