Portfolio Requirement for Art Schools

Graphic design is a course my daughter wants to pursue now. Initially, she wanted to be a chef but as the days go by, her passion for drawing and animation has taken over her like for cooking and baking.

As a parent, I can only be there to help her decide and support her in whatever decision she has to make. Eventually, it is going to be her call anyway. So, she finally decided to pursue her lifelong love of drawing, sketching and creating small animations.

It is very timely too that I saw this infographic which I want to share to others out there who wants to take up arts related field. I am glad I saw this because I didn't realize you have to start building your portfolio as early as now. My daughter is well ahead in her game. She actually pointed out that she does need a portfolio and she already has one which she started building up when she was in Grade 5!

This is really a good information to share since I didn't know this myself. My daughter will also have another way of creating another set of portfolio to wow the prospective universities she will apply for.

It is a good thing that my daughter kept all her drawings and sketches so you can actually see how she transformed as an artist from her wee doodles to her more advanced manga character depictions.

If you are an artist, it is indeed vital to keep tab of your previous works including the ones when you are just starting. This infographic will surely be a good tool in directing you to create your artist's portfolio.

Why My Daughter Won't Walk Barefoot At Home

After featuring her Paper Children art in my blog few days ago, I decided to rummage on her Devian Art profile and check out what she posted recently. I didn't find anything new but did find something interesting. Check this out! I think the title alone speaks in volume. And this is what my daughter certainly doesn't tell me...

PS. The conversation really did happen. And her hating our Millie, I don't think that's true. She loves Millie tons and tons of it. Typical teenager. She just won't show it. Wink!!! Pardon the innuendos of "swearing." She doesn't swear but I bet she wants to at times but I always give her that dagger look when she's almost about to blurt some nonsense stuff.  Teen angst, perhaps.

My Daughter's Paper Children Drawn Art

Say what? I thought, when my daughter told me she wanted to take pictures of her paper children, she was referring to those cutout of papers in the shape of a boy or girl that I used to do when I was young. She corrected me and showed me her piece of "drawn art" with little and cute kids in various poses. The artistic concept of this paper child or children started from Japan (what's new?).

She drew several small paper kids, about 1 1/2 inches tall and posed them with real objects she found interesting around the house. It was like art imitating life or the other way around. One thing I can say is, my daughter's drawing is so awesome! I'm a fan!!!

Chibi Millie Sketches

It's not a secret that my daughter can draw and she can draw really well. I am surprised myself to see how her sketches develop from a seed of idea.

Last night, I put her talent to the test again. She already passed when I asked her to make my birthday giveaway logo few months ago. And I love Japanese manga-like drawing so it was what I asked her to draw and she delivered. So, to put her on the spot again and see how she has developed so far, I made her draw our darling little Bichon Frise pooch. She asked me how I envisioned her outcome to be. I told her I just want a front profile of Millie and the other funny antics that she does as a cute, little dog.

Half an hour later, here are her sketches. She has more though but I will post them later because she wants to improve the sketches. She also made a .gif  to make our little pooch wagging and tongue-swaying. Cute and lovely! Kudos to her! I think and feel she will have a bright future in graphics design or even in the field of animation.

Aim for the star my princess because I can see it is within your reach.

All the sketches are done using her Bamboo pen and tablet. All photos are copyright to my daughter.

My Giveaway Logo

My daughter is so talented. I never knew she was this good, as in really, really good! I asked her to create a logo for me from scratch. Of course, my preferences where given and she asked me for clarification and voila! Here is the outcome:





Wow! I just told her I wanted the momiji kind of characters and there should be cherry blossoms on the side and of course, it should be Japanese-themed because I love Japanese!

She's only 14 but her skills are really beyond her years. I think she will fair very well in graphics and animation. I love my giveaway logo simply because it's beautiful and so me and lastly, my daughter created it from scratch. What a kid!
