RollinPets Nail Clipper and Pet Massager with Store Away Bag Review

My doggie liked the massage brush a lot. She normally does not sit still when it comes to brushing time but when I used the RollinPets massage brush on her, she was well behaved. I could tell that she was having a good time being pampered. The brush is made of soft rubber so it's perfect for massaging during bath time and even when my dog is already dry. The bristles are huge and conical in shape so it glides through my doggie's curly fur without tagging the other hair.



The nail clipper is a bit large for my grip. good thing that it has a spring coil so there's was lesser effort with the usage. I just find the big clipper a bit of a hassle for me because I have small hands so my grip is limited. But that is okay because the size of the clipper will be perfect for bigger or larger breed of dogs. You can still use it for smaller to medium sized dogs, just be cautious as the blades are sharp.

The whole set comes with a free waterproof pouch to keep all of them together. I have the tendency to misplace my dog's old nail clipper and the pouch bag provide safety and security when you're not using the products.

This is perfect for your dogs and cats. Although the clipper is quite big for my grip, it is easy to use and sharp. I like the fact that it has a store-away bag so I can keep them dust-free and safe from the elements. The massager is a big hit for my diva dog who fusses over brushes. This is one massager brush that she enjoyed a lot.

Review - Superior No Bark Control Collar #SuperiorBarkCollar

This is the first time I have used a no-bark control collar to my dog. My dog is already an adult pet and she is a barker but not very chronic. She barks when she hears footsteps or sense someone is at the door. She barks to strangers, not aggressively but as if asking their attention. Her barking can be overlooked if not for the fact that we live in an apartment. In this place, it is very crucial to keep the peace, calmness and quietness because we live in a high-rise property with multicultural residents. They are not particularly friendly with dogs, let alone a "barker" like my pet.

I was really adamant to try this product at first because I am not sure how it would affect my dog. She barks not as crazy as other dogs I have seen but when she barks, it is so hard to stop her. So, I gave this product a go and wanted to know if it could curb my dog's barking when faced with factors that contribute to her barking.

The instruction manual suggests that this collar should not be used for a prolonged period of time. It is best used while training or when there is supervision. It is hard to train my dog now as she's an adult but it would be nice to at least reduce her barking. Amazingly, it reduced her barking.

I initially used this on my dog for no longer than 3 hours on weekends where I am around to see her. As soon as she starts barking, she stops few seconds after. That's really an big improvement.  I also tried using the clicker on her that came with the no-bark collar. She would stop and look at me curiously, wondering what I was holding. That is major improvement in a sense, I didn't have to tell her repeatedly to stop barking. She did on her own with the no-bark collar.

The no-bark collar is not very heavy but my dog is mid-size so there's no issue on that.  It has 2 metallic protruding rods on the collar. I think they emit the vibration to the dog when it barks. It also has indicator light to show if the collar is on. It comes with an instruction manual, and a plastic clicker with holder.

It is easy to operate the product. You can slip it on your dog's neck just like the way you put a normal collar. My dog doesn't seem to mind wearing it but I make sure she doesn't wear it on long period of time.  It also auto-shuts off when not in use for a while.  It is waterproof. It has 10 correction levels so it is applicable to timid to the stubborn type of dogs.

The no-bark collar worked for my dog. I think it will vary from pet to pet due to the individual temperament of each pets.  

Here is a video of my diva Millie with the bark collar on. She barked a little and it was even cut short. You can hear in the mid part of the video that I was so surprised because she didn't bark much with the collar on.







I do recommend this product because it is a good way to train your dog and to limit the barking especially if you are in a similar predicament as mine. 

Ear Infection For Dogs

Dogs can also be susceptible to ear infections just like humans do and that is quite common. If you are a dog owner, you may be aware of the signs and symptoms of a dog's ear infection. If not, here are some tell-tale signs that your precious fur baby needs to have its ears checked.

• walking in circles, seems to be disoriented
• loss of balance
• hair loss around the ear
• scratching of the ear or around the ear
• crusts and/or scabs inside the ear
• odour coming out of the ear
• weird eye movements
• swelling and redness

If you suspect that your dog may have ear infection, it is best to bring him/her to your vet for check up. Your vet may prescribe a medication like posatex. However, do not provide your own medication to your dog. Follow the instructions properly and when in doubt, check with the vet.

Giving Thanks Today

It's so nice to wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and relaxed after a long and taxing work week. And what's so great about this morning is that I thank God for another day, for the beautiful weather, for the family beside me, for a quirky little pooch sleeping on the foot of the bed, for the cozy bed, for the home, for the food on the table, for the warm clothing and there are just too many to be thankful for. 

I don't have to wait for Thanksgiving to appreciate everything around me for today is another day and I shall live it to the fullest!

Chibi Millie Sketches

It's not a secret that my daughter can draw and she can draw really well. I am surprised myself to see how her sketches develop from a seed of idea.

Last night, I put her talent to the test again. She already passed when I asked her to make my birthday giveaway logo few months ago. And I love Japanese manga-like drawing so it was what I asked her to draw and she delivered. So, to put her on the spot again and see how she has developed so far, I made her draw our darling little Bichon Frise pooch. She asked me how I envisioned her outcome to be. I told her I just want a front profile of Millie and the other funny antics that she does as a cute, little dog.

Half an hour later, here are her sketches. She has more though but I will post them later because she wants to improve the sketches. She also made a .gif  to make our little pooch wagging and tongue-swaying. Cute and lovely! Kudos to her! I think and feel she will have a bright future in graphics design or even in the field of animation.

Aim for the star my princess because I can see it is within your reach.

Loyal Canine in Japan's Tsunami

I saw a poignant video of a dog who sat by his dog friend during the tsunami/earthquake in Japan. I cannot help but cry and wonder why humans cannot be like dogs - loyal and true.

If you have seen the video, you can feel the love of an animal to a fellow animal. Then you'll see why dogs are man's bestfriend - and a mutt's companion too.

Happy Millie

Hubby and I decided to have a breakfast at the nearby McDonald's. We took Millie along. We haven't walked Millie for sometime now because of the extreme weather. That won't be too good for her and for me too.

I just noticed how Millie loves to go around for a drive. She prefers sitting in the car rather than walking. She always sit in the middle of the road after few minutes of walk and loves to be carried. Such a diva!

We sometimes take her to our family outings but Dubai is not too pet friendly in most public places. So, what we do is just tag her along and let her see the beaches and the neighborhood.

This was taken last year on our trip to Atlantis in The Palm, Jumeirah. She had fun! We did too :)

Why I Love our Pets!

I am re-posting this. I can't get enough of my sweet Millie. So, this is in honor of all the pets who have come and go in our lives. Just few reasons why we love our pets so much. Enjoy the read!

Pets are normally man's best companion, not just dogs, but pets in general. I grew up in a house full of pets and I have always loved them. I took the responsibility of taking care of them while I was young and I am teaching my daughter the same responsibility.

Why do I love pets? Let me count the ways:

1. They don't judge you. They just love you for who you are and that's unconditional!
2. They lick your worries away.
3. They are so cute and cuddly no matter the shape and size and color they represent.
4. They are warm and fuzzy.
5. They follow you as their master but loves you just the same.
6. They know who you are even from afar. No introduction required!
7. They make me smile.
8. They listen to my whines and woes. They listen to my laughter and tears.
9. They keep me company.
10. They are beings.

Burn Baby! Burn!

Before you think ahead, no, it's not my rendition of one of the popular songs of the 70's. I am talking about wanting to burn belly fat. I have gained significant amount of weight during the past year and I am slowly shedding it off. Like the adage goes, slowly but surely and that is what I am doing right now.

I have been regularly walking my Millie and running at the treadmill at least twice a week for half an hour. My weight budges ever so slowly probably because my metabolism has slowed down due to age. Anyway, I have kept track of my eating habits and what I actually put in my mouth every meal. I must say, this taking down notes on the food I eat really works like a charm because whenever I am about to take chips and sodas, I am reminded of the kind of food entry I will put in the diary and that is bad! Shame on me! So, I stick to this practice and I am good.

Dizzy Spell

I was playing with our pet Millie and shrieking to my "lungs" desire then I had this dizzy spell and fell asleep for hours and hours.

I was not sure what happened to me but I remember having intense head pain while I was shrieking. Well, don't ask me why I was shrieking because Millie loved my shrieks! hahaha.

Suffice to say, I will not be shrieking for the coming days or anytime soon! Hehehe.

Man's Best Friend

A dog is a man's best friend. It keeps you happy. It follows you around. It shows you its loyalty. It is always happy to be with you. A dog is like an extended family member with four legs.

It has been a while since I had a dog. It must have been ages! The last dog I ever loved so dearly was my pug named Rambo. I had him for almost 10 years until I left for Dubai. We had dogs after Rambo, the bigger kind like the Japanese Akita dog, and 2 yellow labs. I never had the chance to get close to these dogs because I was away and they are all gone now.

Having a pet here in Dubai is such a hassle. For one, they are exorbitantly expensive. I find this place not dog-friendly. Pets are not allowed to roam with their owners in malls and parks. Most landlords do not let their tenants to have pets at home. I just don't know why. However, I still managed to have one through adoption. The building administrator allowed me to keep a small pet. It was serendipity, really. A colleague forwarded an email almost 3 weeks ago about the owners leaving for UK and could not take their dog with them. I saw the picture of "Millie" and I fell in love with her right away. I told myself, "I should have this dog for my daughter." I called the owner but was unsuccessful because he already promised Millie to a family.

I have told my hubby that and he said we would just adopt another one in the shelter. Luck must be by my side because last week, I got a call from the owner of Millie asking if I was still interested. The rest was history!

We now have a dog! Our first family dog is a Bichon Frise and her name is Millie. She is already an old dog but we don't mind. She is such a bundle of energy. She leaps and sometimes bark bloody murder! She loves having her tummy scratched and loves to jump on the bed with us in the morning. She enjoys having walks and a smart dog too. She knows when it's time for her walk and will gently nudge the leash hanging near the door to signal the activity. She grows on everyone at home real fast. She is such a sweetheart!

My daughter still doesn't know and it's a big surprise. So, once again my heart is fluttering for man's best friend.

Goodbye our dear Sheepy

Letting go of someone, even a pet, is so hard to do. We were not ready to say good bye to Sheepy but deep inside I knew we had to. My heart is not strong enough to face losing someone and I categorize my pets in that area too. Sheepy had to say good bye this afternoon. What's more heartbreaking was the call I got from my crying princess. My daughter has always been a strong kid. She doesn't cry in front of us. I have not seen her cry because of someone nor something. She's just steadfast unlike me. I wear my heart in my sleeve.

I know this was inevitable. The moment I saw his condition last night, I could tell it wasn't good. I tried my best to give Sheepy the comfort even for the last few hours he had. I guess it was his time. I never knew why he suddenly got ill when he was only 1 year and 2 months. He was our dear, gentle cavy.

I don't know if I did the right thing by giving my daughter pets to take care of. I was just teaching her how to be responsible to another living thing. I know that giving her company in the form of our 5 guinea pigs will make her a compassionate and responsible kid. I didn't mean to expose her to this kind of reality. I didn't want her to see the pet suffer and worse, die under her watch. I feel so hurt seeing her cry. Last night, she fell asleep crying and when I came home from work this afternoon, she was crying again and this time, all I could do was to assure her that our Sheepy is in heaven now sans the suffering. At her young age, I know it will be painful to accept that the pet you have taken cared of will one day leave. She still has to grasp the concept of life and death but I hope I did the right thing by giving her pets to love and care.

My heart is breaking right now. I just hope I will be able to console her with the fact that she gave Sheepy the best love a guinea pig could ever have.

So long Sheepy, sleep tight. We are happy that you have been a part of our lives. You will be missed.(Sheepy: May 3, 2007 - July 28, 2008)

Sheepy

Just as I was exuding with great happiness because of my nice blog template, I learned that our dear guinea pig pet, Sheepy has fallen ill. He is exhibiting the following symptoms of serious illness like deep breathing, lethargy, risen and puffy fur, eye discharge and loss of appetite. I called the vet right away because I couldn't take him to the clinic anymore as it's late. The doc advised me to force feed him with water laced with sugar and to apply eye ointment to clear the discharge. My daughter has fallen asleep crying because this is the first time for her to see our beloved pet having a hard time breathing. My heart aches to see my daughter get hurt and same goes to my pet Sheepy. I just wish he get's better. I can't afford losing someone so dear to us. Please help me pray for our little Sheepy to get well. We love him so much...
