Vintage Tag Slider

I have been very busy lately on building my stock for the handmade cards, tags and what-have-yous I can sell to everyone. The stock is building up not as quickly as I want it because I am still missing some bits and pieces of embellishments that will complete the whole project. However, I am still working on meeting my goal of making maximum of 2-3 cards per week and some tags if I have the time and materials.

So, let me give you a peek of what I have done today so you know what to expect when I start peddling my handmade with love cards.

I printed some vintage images from the public domain, used Bo Bunny patterned paper, added crackle paint on the flowers, birds and the sentiment to add that aged and shabby look, also used embossing technique on the front tag, use Graphic 45 patterned paper for the pull out, some tulle for the ribbon, affixed a cabochon rose in peach color and lastly, hang 2 cute metal charms (key and made with love).

I'm really getting the hang of making vintage and shabby looking cards and tags. I am leaning towards plenty of rich texture and dimension, use of paper flowers, plenty of laces and ribbons and pearls. That's why I still have few more arts supplies to receive in the coming days to complete the stash. My last purchases will be more of inks, distress stains from Tim Holtz, rubber and cling ons, patterned paper and mulberry flowers. Then I can go full swing on creating lovely cards and tags for your special someone.

Pay It Forward

I am sick of hearing negative news. I am tired of reading violence like it is a part of one's culture. I am sad to know that there is disparity. Enough of those negative vibes. It's high time we spread the love around.

I am really glad that Sarah, who is behind the artistic and creative Paper Tree blog, posted this Pay It Forward scheme.

Here's how the PAY IT FORWARD part works:

1. The gift will be a mystery of my choice, created especially for the recipient (in my case, I am not very crafty so I will purchase something I feel is special).

2. I have one year to get all five gifts made (Does it really take a year to do this?!? Well, if you get to accomplish this task ahead of time, then feel free to post it right away.)

3. If you're one of the five, you must make a post in your blog offering to make a gift for five people, spreading the joy of creation

4. When you receive your gift, you should make a post on your blog and show everyone inspiring others to follow the chain and participate.

How easy is that - to make someone else happy - everyone should be doing it. Oh and if you don’t have a blog that’s okay too - you can post on your facebook/myspace page.

So, the first five interested (and will really commit) to leave a comment in my post about this will receive something from yours truly. I am not as creative as my friend Sarah but I will make it a point that it is special.

Tag - Have You Ever?

MsRay of Woman on a JouRney has tagged me on this one. I find this very interesting because you get to know the person who tagged you more and you share something as well that others would find very amusing. So here they are:

1. Have you ever been on TV?
One time while I was doing a "picket" with other concerned citizens back in the Philippines. My mom actually saw me and called me in my mobile phone instantly to tell me to get out of there because I was a government employee picketing against the government of the Philippines right in front of my office (and that was during my lunch time...hahaha!). The irony!

2. Have you ever sung in public?
Well, if you count singing in a karaoke bar as a public place then yes I have had the chance. AND I won't do it again. I was slightly tipsy so I had the guts to sing in public which when I am sober, I won't even try.

3. Have you ever dyed your hair blond?
Not in my wildest dream. I think I will look weird if I do. LOL!

4. Have you ever eaten frogs' legs?
No and will never.

5. Have you ever received a present that you really hated?
No, I always appreciate all the gifts I receive.

6. Have you ever walked into a lamp post?
It almost happened while I was vacationing in Paris with my family. I was too pre-occupied gawking and oogling at the scenery and the beautiful surroundings that I almost hit the lamp post. Good thing my daughter called out so I was back in my senses before I could actually have contact with the post. Sheesh...

7. Have you ever cooked a meal by yourself for more than 15 people?
Once. I never liked cooking but during my hubby's birthday, I surprised him by cooking "menudo" and "pancit canton" for our family and friends.

8. Have you ever fallen or stumbled in front of others?
Yes when I was in grade 4. I was lugging this very heavy bag with stroller and placed the stroller on the "stroller ramp" customized in our school's stairs. Well, we all know how the law of gravity works right? What comes up must come down...together with Ria! I was graciously helped by 1 cute sixth grader and was even kind enough to get my bag and stroller for me...Oh gosh... *blush*

9. Have you ever done volunteer work?
Yes, back in the Philippines during my university days.

Tag - The Fours Edition

1. Places I would like to visit and why

Rotorua, New Zealand - I sold some packages for this place but I have never been there myself. It would be fun to see and feel how it is to be in a place I can only see in pictures and travel brochures. Rotorua is known for geothermal activities in New Zealand like geysers and their mud pools and also famously known for its colorful landscape and craters.




The Galapagos - I am so interested with the eco-system in that island.




The Stonehenge, Salisbury Plain, UK - I was 5 years old when I saw a picture of Stonehenge and ever since I am so bent to go there. Maybe next year...



Jungfraujoch, Switzerland - The top of Europe, as it is famously known. Again, being a travel agent before, I know a lot of interesting places which travellers will find very appealing and this place is one of them. I have prepared several packages before about this place and again, I have not set foot on that place yet. My colleagues who had travelled to Jungfraujoch said that the place was breath-taking! That remains to be seen!

SO, HERE ARE 10 STUFF ABOUT ME:

1. I love to travel. It's a great blessing to be able to work in one of the most prestigious airlines in the world. I get free and rebated tickets so that's the main reason I can afford to travel. That's the whole beauty of being an airline staff when you are a wanderlust like I am.

2. I don't know how to cook. This is more of a choice really. I know, I know, the conservatives will throw stones at me but like I said, it's more of a choice. I never had any inclination on cooking nor anything in the kitchen for that matter other than the food I'll eat. Hahahaha! I do cook once in a blue moon and most times, it comes out like a gourmet meal because I have to follow the recipe.

3. I ran away when I was 10 because I didn't want to go back to my school. One of my teachers embarrassed me horribly in front of the whole Grade 5 class. I forgot the nitty-gritty details but it had something to do with "mistakenly quoted" by a tattle tale. I was made to deliver an apology speech in all of the Grade 5 classes (I think there were 10 or 12 sections in our school) for something I didn't say. My mom's officemate found me in the old "Gotesco Caloocan" and they said I looked like a beggar with my dirty clothes and worn out slippers. Oh, the adventures I had! I wasn't gone for long as I really intend to come back at night time when everyone else was asleep but got found in the afternoon. Hehehe! And who said I AM BORING?????

4. Back in my academic days, they call me a geek sans the glasses. I don't know why because I suck in Math so how can I be a geek, right?

5. I have always wanted to be a cardiologist. I am being realistic and all, my health won't allow me to be a doctor because instead of curing the patients, I have to cure myself all the time =). I decided to change my aspiration and since I love to travel, I took up International Studies. I remember when I was 5 years old, I used to read anatomy books and my parents would encourage me to pursue Medicine but then, let's face it, I am more sick than my patients, if I ever become a doctor... LOL! I will (as in forever) hold a special place in my heart for that dream. It will just be a dream though.

6. I am freakishly organized. I love putting things in order and use color codes for some stuff like pink pail for my undergarments, and white pail for the socks. When I write notes, I use colored pens too, red when I stress a point, green for important stuff and blue or black for the common notes. Well, my closet is another story. I am sharing my closet with my princess so I am having a hard time keeping it in order. You know how kids just pull out stuff and don't fix. However, my clothes are arranged according to categories, all skirts are together, all suits together, trousers and pants combined, shirts and blouses are folded and arranged again in gradual changes of hue. So, all shades of blue shirts will be together and so on.

7. I am not a sporty kind of person. I have this terrible hands, legs, arms, feet coordination. I can't seem to master anything sporty other than running on the treadmill, if you can consider running as sports in my case.

8. I prefer being called by my nickname - Ria. My real name is ______ (secret) but I feel that it is too lady-like and hard to recall. In the office, I am well-known as "Ria" so when I am introduced by my bosses and colleagues to visitors, they have to stress that my real name is ________ and that Ria is my preferred name to be called. Talk about influence...heheehehee!

9. I don't know if this is a talent or what but I have this weird thing on remembering names, faces and details. I can recall a person's name and face even if I have met him/her once. In my line of job, I meet a lot of people and I am often surprised by how I can call out their names when I see them and have met them only once. I cannot say this is photographic memory because sometimes I cannot remember a task to do. My family and friends tell me that I should be an FBI agent or be in CIA because I'll make good use of this gift...yeah right!

10. Lastly, I still watch cartoons with my daughter. This is something I'll never outgrow.
