4 Personality Types You May Want To Avoid In the Office

Everyone likes to think that they are easy to get along with. However, if you’ve ever spent time working in a busy office, which I’m guessing most of you have, you’d know that this isn’t always the case. Every work environment possesses a myriad of personalities each different to the next. If, by chance you are reading this at work (on the sly I hope) take a look around the office at your co-workers. Can you categorise any of them into one of these personality types?

The Chatty Kathy

This co-worker super fun and bubbly – a real gem to be around. They always ask you questions about your life and seems genuinely interested in you. That is until a few weeks later and all those intimate details of what you got up to on the weekend have spread like wildfire around the office. Eeekk. There can only be one culprit – the chatty Kathy, otherwise known as office gossip. These people thrive in drama, and are prone to spreading lies or half-truths behind the backs of others. No information is safe and while you may be tempted to return the favour – watch out – they know how to play the game and have the ability to twist your words in ways you could have never imagined, causing co-workers to pick sides. Once management gets wind of your rift, there will be undeniable consequences mostly for you.

The Put Down Patrol

The put-down patrol is among the same species as the gossip, the only difference is, these people have no qualms about making digs to your face, and in a group situation. It might be an attack on your intelligence, your looks, how you handled a client or whether you suck up to the boss. If you call them up on it, their go-to response is just relax man, can’t you take a joke! Seriously, did we just teleport back to high school? Their comments can range from aggressive and intimidating to passive and underhanded.

The Delegator

You’re not really sure what this person’s job actually entails, mostly because they don’t seem to be doing any work at all. Your daily interactions involve them throwing a pile of folders on your desk and demanding a report via the Axcelerate CRM system by COB. All the while, they spend the day gasbagging with ol’ chatty Kathy near the water cooler. What makes the situation even worse, is that your boss is clearly wearing rose coloured glasses and believes that this guy has impeccable management skills. They will most likely be the next to be promoted.

The Ball Breaker

This person will stop at nothing to become the top dog, no matter how many people they squish along the way – probably including their own Mother. You’ll likely realise quite quickly that they are not team players and have the mentality of, it’s my way or the highway. They hate being knocked off their pedestal or being shown up by anyone else (intentional or not) and will likely make your job very difficult if you wrong them. They are often very charming due to their extroverted nature, but they are also low on the empathy charts and very high on the emotional stability one. Approach these people softly and be wary of their mind games.

Going On Leave Soon

The first month of the year has proven to be a one to reckon with. My workload is so immense and testy. It is also extremely stressful and time constraint and most importantly, it has changed me to become a mini-monster in a span of 3 weeks.

My patience is wearing off and it's only January 2014! I desperately need to get away soon before I snap at someone again. One thing that peeves me is when my personality is getting affected by the stress. I don't like that because I AM NOT LIKE THAT - a big B! However, for some very unconscious reasons, people at work (and even at home) see the toxicity level of stress taking its toll on me.

That is why, I deserve a leave and I will go on one in few days. I have to get away from all the hassles, stress that I somehow drag into 2014, unknowingly and not my fault because all those stuff are never ending unless one has been accomplished.

Anyway, no time to rant and I don't want that. I should be happy. So, I'll be away for few days this February. There's won't be any activity in my blogs for several days so I can unwind and enjoy 2014 in a better perspective. I have to recharge and detox both personally and professionally. It's just too much negativity stemming from one task. And that is just ONE task. Imagine, if I have to do that singular task day in and day out, I'd probably go bonkers. Well, this is where vacation leaves come into play.

Eye Test

This is not your usual vision test but more of a personality test. Check it out! The result is very "me."

Deep Down You Are Sensitive

You're the type of person who notices everything and forgets nothing. You are very in tune with the world.

You feel deeply, and sometimes the silliest things can effect you. You are easily brought to laughter or tears.

You don't show the world how fragile you are. You instead show people how insightful you can be.

You are good at anticipating what's going to happen in your life. You are often the first one to see what's coming.

Personality Quiz - Know More About Yourself

I took this tag from Beth because I got curious. Well, most of it is true... Want to try? My remarks on pink font validates the result as being true or not in my case.

Here are the rules:

1. Open this website : Personality Test
2. Take the Personality Quiz (It's very short and easy really! )
3. Copy paste the result to your blog.
4. Tag as many friends you can and link to the friend who tagged you!

Your view on yourself:

You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties. (101% true!)

The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:

You are a true romantic. When you are in love, you will do anything and everything to keep your love true. (I just married the man I love. hihihhii)

Your readiness to commit to a relationship:

You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you might that person. (Again, married the guy already!)

The seriousness of your love:

You are very serious about relationships and aren't interested in wasting time with people you don't really like. If you meet the right person, you will fall deeply and beautifully in love. (101% true again!)

Your views on education

Education is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can. (Yes)

The right job for you:

You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life. (erhm.. I don't think I have found that right job yet...hehehe)

How do you view success:

You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous. (Guilty!)

What are you most afraid of:

You are concerned about your image and the way others see you. This means that you try very hard to be accepted by other people. It's time for you to believe in who you are, not what you wear. (Totally DISAGREE on this one though. I could care less what other people think or say about me. Wrong one.)

Who is your true self:

You are mature, reasonable, honest and give good advice. People ask for your comments on all sorts of different issues. Sometimes you might find yourself in a dilemma when trapped with a problem, which your heart rather than your head needs to solve. (That is why I cannot be in the management level. My heart rules over my head...)

This is a tag for all. Just grab and don't forget to link back please. Have fun!

Let Your Inner Winner Shine

Here are few steps to make us reach our dreams a step closer by having the right mind-set and attitude.

1. Be passionate
This is one of the moving factor to make us achieve our goals. When we set our self to what is comfortable then we become reticent and accepting to what is available and that can be limiting. It is not a bad thing to be reticent but have passion to accept change and rise to the challenge.

2. Believe in yourself
I find this sometimes difficult to achieve. I also feel that my morale is affected when things go wrong and when there is not much to affirm my positive points. However, I learned that we can never truly achieve things when we doubt our capabilities. Doubting is debilitating to our confidence and will get us nowhere. Believe.

3. Positive thinking
Try not to focus on the mistakes or imperfections or the problems. Think outside the box. Envision. Don't waste your precious time thinking and wishing you are someone else because that is never going to happen.

4. Have a makeover
It pays to have a good posture and style. Throw the drab work-clothes and get new ones if you have to. Be a little daring. If you have worn your hair in a bun for - like forever! - it's time to ditch the do and make a new hairstyle. Change your wardrobe colors. If you're into the basic gray, black, white and browns, now's the right time to add a little pizazz. Put color in your life. Wear make-up. Have a nail-polish. And if you're a guy, get a new haircut or try new hairstyles too. There's nothing to lose, maybe just few bucks...

5. Be courageous
The best way to have courage is face our own fears. We'll just waste so much time waiting for the right moment when we muster our confidence. By then, all our dreams will be gone and opportunities gone out of the window.

6. Motivate, motivate, motivate
I have problem with this one though I try my best to overcome being demoralized. What I do is I achieve a goal at a time, never all together or a lot in a single moment because I will lose my focus and drive and will leave with cold pants. It pays to also share your dreams with someone or to your close friends and families because then you become committed. Who wants to fail when all eyes are on you?

7. Be smart
One thing we should learn is that our goals should be S.M.A.R.T, that is: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and have a timeline. Be smart. So when you are trying to achieve a certain goal, do it step by step. Our bodies don't adapt to changes overnight. It takes time before we can get ourselves accustomed to something. So, be kind to yourself. Take it slowly but surely.

8. Expand your horizon
Networking is important whether you are looking for a new job or adjusting to a new environment. Statistics from the Federal Bureau of Labor in the US indicate that 70% of jobs are found through networking. Start mingling. Go out and spread your wings.

9. Keep at it
Try and try until your succeed! That's it.

10. Blow your own trumpet
I find it rather awkward to blow my own trumpet or carry my own chair. They both mean the same thing - talking about yourself. However, I noticed that those who got ahead of me were really "smooth talkers." Most of them are just empty talkers but they managed to get the promotion. So I think, it's okay to let the world know about your achievements. Talk to your managers. Give them your quarterly report of achievements. Suggest how to streamline a process. What I do is, I email my suggestions to my boss and copy the top honchos, for their info. So, if my suggestions are considered and put in place then they know who initiated it and I get the credit. Get noticed. Speak up and don't let others steal your thunder.

The Tweedledums

There were two friends named Dimwit and Dimtwat who lived in the Highland. These two ninnies were known for their shady characters and unpleasant behaviour. They looked down on people as if they were slaves.

One day, these two ninnies went to a posh place to get something done and Dimwit didn't get exactly what was requested so the barrage of insults and expletives flew in every corner of the place and Dimtwat followed suit. They dropped names and told everyone they were from this and that and they would call some officials because they didn't get what they wanted. They would sue the management of the place for ruining something. The slur of inappropriate words were spoken at lightning speed causing a lot of inconvenience to the other citizens.

Well, in the real world, people like them should be hung upside down. Their brains went down to their feet and need to get back to were it should be - that mid part of their head called the skull!

These are the kind of dimwits populating this society. A lot of them are expatriates who came from nothing and when they suddenly had money, they became this proverbial fly on top of the carabao. It's such a shame because they give a very bad image of their fellowmen who are not even close to being like them at all.

The Ant and the Bully

This is my take on the movie "The Ant and the Bully." It's my personal perception of all the bullies in the world and the ants they step on to.

I feel sad that these bullies treat others unkindly. I mean, who gave them the authority to boss everyone around? Last time I checked, we all poop & pee, we sweat like everyone else, we pick our noses too. So, what makes these bullies special amongst the rest? Could it be their inherent dominant genes, overflowing with dominance that the need to pour it out on the poor ants is their way of releasing those?

I have been picked on many times because of my size, my being pacifist and my lack of authority in some matters. I don't akin this attribute to my being a Piscean but this is me. I hate conflicts and I definitely abhor people treating me like a dirt bag. Just because a person does not retaliate one's antagonism, that does not mean he or she is a door mat. There are other worthy ideas and activities to think of and do respectively than to succumb to these people's provocation. I'm sure a lot of you have been thrown on the side by these people at one point in your life? How did you cope?
