Tips To Help Dad Thrive In The Digital Age

Well, not all dads are tech-savvy as the others and we can't blame them. They are too busy at work or they have their own assistants to do the complicated techy stuff for them. So, how will the less-tech savvy dad thrive in today's Digital Age?

Let's help them, shall we?

Tip# 1 - Tutor your dad during weekends. Teach like you're teaching a kindergartener. Make those technical words simple. You don't want to overwhelm him now. Treat that tutorial time as bonding time too with the good ol' man!

Tip# 2 - This tip is related to Tip# 1. Now that he's familiar with the basics, give him stuff to do like, make him type simple emails, open a program he would normally leave to his assistant to do or to you or better yet, let him try the social media scene and understand how the world has evolved with technology.

Tip# 3 - If he's having trouble with the keyboards and the commands to use when typing a simple correspondence using a word processing software, teach him the shortcut keys. Let go of the "mouse" once in a while. It's good for his hands. Keeps the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at bay too!

Remembering My Dad On Father's Day

My dad is no longer with us for 6 years now but each day passes with him in my thought and heart. It seems like yesterday when he was still with us. I remember how groovy he was during his younger years. He would put pomade on his hair like Elvis Presley and sometimes drove around town with his motorcycle and schuberth helmet. He would invite his friends over and watch the basketball and he would call us to join him cheer. He taught us how to ride the bike, climb the tree and held our hands when we crossed the street. He was there to guide and nurture us as we grew.

Tomorrow is another Father's Day without my dad. I feel a tightness in my heart because I am used to celebrate Father's Day with him around. I know he is happy now and I am sure that even from where he is, he knows that I love him dearly and that he will always be in my heart.

Tatay, I just want to tell you how much I love you. I didn't have the chance to say it out loud when you were here but I know you know how much I do.  I miss you every single day. Happy Father's Day Dad. You are the greatest dad a daughter could ever have.

Dreaming of a Happy Christmas

It's been 4 years since my dad left us to join our Creator. It's been 3 Christmases without him too and honestly, all those Christmas Days has been different. It was not as merry as how our previous Christmases had been while he was alive.

It's Christmas time again. I am feeling a vacuum inside which I don't understand. I just miss my dad. It's not the same without him.

The Demi-Nurse

When my dad was still alive and was under treatment for his diabetes and major heart stroke, I was the one taking his pulse regularly and noting the results on a chart. I was his "home-nurse." I remember seeing small medical equipment in our house then which was lent to us by my aunt who happens to be an anaesthesiologist. Although I have no training as a nurse nor was a medical student, I just learned the basics by reading many medical books. I also read the manuals of the medical equipment at home to familiarize myself with their functions. It was really interesting to know more about the medical world when you're an ordinary denizen of the planet. Makes me remember the days when I was keen to pursue medicine but due to my frail health, I had to change my dream.

Here's a Father's Day wishes to all you great dads out there. I wish my dad is here to read this. And to my husband who has been a good husband and a father to our one and only daughter, I am thankful for everything you have done for us.

I miss you Dad...

Exactly two years ago today, I lost my dad. The pain of him leaving us all of a sudden is still fresh. I guess, getting over someone you love is a long and painful process. Much as I want to let go, a part of me is holding on to his memories. I keep telling myself to accept the fact that he's really gone for good but another part of me longs for my Dad. I still miss him so bad.
