Christmas Vacation - Coming Soon!

Few more days and we will be spending the most joyous occasion with our families and friends back home. We have been very busy catching up on our Christmas shopping for families and friends so my schedule is out of whack these days.

Christmas shopping is not only the activity I have during weekends. I also have to fulfill blog assignments, do some household chores and finish my sister-in-laws handmade baptismal invitation for her youngest son. I commissioned to do it as my gift to her. It's a good way to get the creative juice back and I am glad that it's trickling in. Although it came a bit late, the creativity juice that is. I would have created some handmade cards to giveaway. No fret, I'll start early next year with that project.

All I know is, we're counting the days and the excitement is building up. I can't wait to see my family and friends once again.

Gift-Giving this Christmas

We have actually completed the gift-hunting and shopping last weekend in time for the coming of Christmas.

Most of the gifts we bought were for kids. Our families are loaded with children so I can imagine the merriment come Christmas morning.

I didn't do the Christmas shopping this year and have left the task to my husband. I did tell him what would be nice for the people in our list. We thought of buying personalized stuff too. I know there are great deals in the internet. I found some deals at 20% off at PersonalCreations. I think that is a good deal considering the tight budget and the number of people we have in the list.

There are still other occasions in the coming months - birthdays and anniversaries of people we love. So, I hope I can still find great offers for personalized gifts.

Give Thanks

I may have shortcomings and misgivings but I am sincerely thankful for the blessings, great or small. I thank the Lord for the bountiful blessings He gives me every single day. I am also thankful for the family who embraces me with love, for the friends who make my life so much fun and for the foes who make me strong and wise.

A Father's Day Greeting to All

Tomorrow, 20 June is Father's Day. I would like to greet my dad who is no longer with us a special Father's Day because he had been a pillar of hope for my family. He worked hard and gave his all to give us a good life. I am thankful Tatay! I know that you are watching over us all the time. I miss you so much specially on times like this when we celebrated special occasions and you were always leading the way. I just want you to know that even you're not here, your loving legacy is remembered.

I would also like to greet my husband who has been giving us his support, love and care unconditionally. The one person who truly makes me see that life is worth living. A positive force in my life. A beacon of hope, a person of love. I love you honey and your daughter and I are thankful for your love.

This goes out to my brother as well who is working hard to give his family a bright future. I can see your sacrifices. Keep it up! You are a wonderful person.

And to all the great fathers out there and the fathers-to-be, this day is for you for the wonderful contributions you make to your family and the society.

Handmade Card - 40th Birthday Card for Hubby

I didn't buy him commercial cards you just pick from the lot. I made him a special one from the heart and loaded with love. Here's the card I gave my hubby on his 40th birthday last Thursday. He loved it! One comment though from the celebrant, "Ma, it is so 'right in your face'!" Is it?!?

Time for a Party!

Party organizers must be getting their plans and materials ready for the holiday season. Even companies are holding their annual Christmas Parties and the employees are all excited. Who would not be? With all the exchange of pleasantries, merriment, gifts and food abound; having a great party is indeed one to look forward to.

I am sure that suppliers of materials used in parties must be having a ball of time meeting orders and running after clients for future events because of the holiday season. I wonder how the event organizers or party hosts or hostess are coming up with their planning and execution during this time?

Holding a party takes a lot of work and preparation. One has to consider many factors before jumping to the planning stage of holding a great and fun party. Issues like theme, location, date, attendees, food, supplies and most important are the commercial tables and chairs are just a few to note when preparing a party.

I have not attended a standing party yet so if I am to host my own party, I will definitely need folding tables and stackable chairs. I cannot imagine causing inconvenience to my guests by keeping them on their feet for long. So having chairs and tables around will be vital to have a fun-filled and successful party.

Thankful Each Day

Sometimes, I tend to overlook the simple joys life has to offer. I often focus on the pain but never realize that these pains actually make me stronger. It's the obstacles I face which make me a better person. For that, I am very thankful for every blessing and even trials which come my way. I know HE lets me go through life's rough patches to prepare me for the better things in life. The best is yet to come...

I am thankful for my family who loves and support me no matter what. I am truly grateful for the wonderful friends (be it online or blogging pals) who make my life so much meaningful and colorful. I am thankful for the good health, the roof on our heads, the food on our tables and the wee money in our pockets.

I am thankful for everything. I am thankful for this life.

Happy Halloween 2009!

I hope everyone is having a great time trick or treating. I just wish we have Halloween Trick or Treating event here so I can go out too and have some fun! I'll probably dress up our cute dog Millie as a Princess. LOL!

For our Halloween project this year, apart from the mini Jack-O-Lanterns made of oranges, my daughter made some Ghosts lollies. She used white cooking chocolate, choco chips for the eyes and barbecue sticks as lolly handle. Spookilicious!!!

Halloween is almost Here!

I have never experienced trick or treating as a child because Halloween is not really practiced in the Philippines where I grew up. The same thing is happening to my daughter who is now 11 but never had the chance to wear fancy Halloween costumes for trick or treat. Problem is, here in the Middle East, Halloween is not observed by the locals. They do recognize the event; however, some of the expats here celebrate it by having their children trick or treat around their villages where most of the residents are expats as well.

If I cannot celebrate the trick or treating here, might as well bring a little touch of Halloween at home by carving - NOT A PUMPKIN - oranges! Yes, it's the least we can do to put our home in that Halloween mood apart from the cobwebs made out of cotton and those critters!

All you need are two oranges. Slice the top and remove the pulps inside. Slightly carve out a face on the exterior but not too hard because you might break the skin. This little "Jack-o-Lanterns" serve as cute table-top votive holders! There you go! Your very own miniature Jack-o-Lanterns!
