My Newchic Online Shopping Experience

It is 2016! It's time to update my wardrobe collection, well at least, some of them that I haven't worn for the whole of 2015.

They are here! They're finally here! My journals, business cards and gift tag from Minted.com are finally here!

I ordered 3 journals (2 for me and 1 for my daughter), 1 business card (25 pieces per set) and gift tags (25 pieces per set). And I love them all!

I am very finicky with paper products because I like something that will last longer and the paper used in everything I ordered are simply remarkable. Fashion Statement From My Daughter's Point Of View

Well, I have allowed my daughter to tell me what she feels about my being a fashionista and how I try to influence her. Here are her own opinions about fashion and how she sees it.

"I'm not exactly a fashionista, but I know my mother is. I'm the "whatever-feels-comfy-is-alright-for-me" kind-of person. Well, that was before I stepped into my 15th year, where the thing called "fashion conscience" came into existence.

I began to have slight doubts about how I dressed myself, occasionally. Sometimes, I'd ignore it but sometimes it just peters me like a fly. So on a whim, I decided to give the thought a chance. And I was okay with it. But it became more of a big deal for my mom than it was for me whenever I go out with friends in my school, well, since yeah. There are guys and girls there.  And every time she finds out I'd be going out with friends (and that includes guys), she makes it a bigger deal by ransacking my/her closet, using her 'fashionista' senses and picks out her delighted set just for me.  Though, when she found out about Zalora, an online shop in the Philippines, she took things up to a different level.

I have been asking for  Sperry top-sider shoes for sometime now and I'm glad I checked Zalora because if my mom finds out that I am putting an effort to give in to her fashion sense, she'll be happy. I like being dressed by mom though. Please don't get me wrong. There are just times and that is MOST OF THE TIME where I prefer my casual self than my dressed-up self. My mom gets that and I know she means well.  I think she's just preparing me for the real world when I start going to college next school year. Do you buy your arts and craft stuff online or you drive to the nearest Michael's Art or other craft supplies? Well, I do most of my craft buying online because Dubai has limited craft suppliers. There are quite a handful here but they're expensive and almost double the price of the ones I buy in the US.

I got hooked ever since I bought my first arts and craft supplies from a seller on Etsy. There are plenty of reasons why I love buying at Etsy. Here are some reasons why:

• I like the fact that I can message the seller directly through their shop in Etsy and the response time is rather quick. I contacted another craft supplier's website but it took more than 2 days before I got a response. In Etsy, I think the sellers are almost (always) online which is good.

• I made some comparison and most of the sellers' prices are similar to the ones I have seen in the website but the shipping costs of most Etsy sellers are very competitive; oftentimes, much lower than the websites I have visited.

• I have encountered several Etsy sellers and they are very accommodating and nice. They are willing to give a customized quote for all your purchases so you don't have to pay additional shipping for each item and get clubbed together resulting to a higher shipping rate.

• They offer fabulous discounts and coupon codes for repeat customers. 

• Some of the sellers even have "bloggers" incentives and they will give you several items for free in exchange of a review. Isn't that nice? I managed to get $30 worth of free flat back gems and pearls because of this. 

• Most of the items sold in Etsy (not just the arts and crafts category) are HANDMADE! I am a staunch supporter of "buying handmade" stuff because I am a handmade card maker. I know the love and passion that goes in every stuff they make and the time they spent to create it.

• Most Etsy sellers are micro-businesses which I love to support because some of them are stay-at-home-moms who try to sell their creations and supplies to augment their household income. If I have my way, I will also sell my handmade cards via Etsy but not just now.

Tips For Affordable Wardrobe Update

I have gained a substantial amount of weight over the last few years. What used to be a svelte figure is now a flabby and rotund one. My small sized clothes and shoes are now the property of my daughter. And I am forced to buy few few sizes bigger than what I used to wear.

Despite of my weight gain, I still have to present myself appropriately.  I am in serious need of a wardrobe update and here are tips on how to go about it without burning a hole in the pocket.

In this case, adjustments.  Some of my coats have enough allowance in the seams so it can be adjusted accordingly. Business suits are really expensive here in Dubai so I can live with several of my suits being adjusted rather than kept in a box and put into oblivion.  That will save me money because I will just pay my dressmaker a fraction of the costs of each business suits I have bought and not worn for sometime because they are all tight.

Buy basics and mix and match and invest on some classic cut outfit

If it's really necessary that you have to spend few money to buy new clothes, make sure you spend it wisely by investing on outfits like a business suit, a shift dress, 1 or 2 cardigans of basic colors, at least 2 blouses that you can wear with a business suit or solo, 1 or 2 pairs of trousers, at least 1 decent jeans that will fit your new body perfectly and basic tees to match it with. You don't have to splurge and there is no need for it. Just learn to mix and match your updated wardrobe and stick to colors that can go well with others like white, black, gray, and pastel colors.

See, updating your wardrobe need not be an expensive undertaking.  Just follow these simple tips and you will be fine.

My Online Shopping Happy Ending

Well, I didn't realize that my online shopping experience with Cobone recently would yield a happy ending after all.  Multimindsit delivered my order first thing in the morning yesterday and that made my day.

I already requested Cobone to facilitate the refund and checked with them yesterday morning if it was done. I had to give them time as their office opens only at 9 a.m.  So when Multimindsit called to say they have my laptop, I had to check with Cobone if my refund was done.  Unfortunately for me but fortunately for Cobone and Multimindsit, the refund was not yet processed so in short, much as I want to just forget all about the hassles I have been through, the better of me (the one that screams "Go, take it! Take it!" and the one yearning for her Macbook Pro for the longest time) decided to receive the laptop of my dreams.

So there. My Thursday was a happy one. I have my laptop and I did my overtime (which will add to my coffer). What more can I ask for?

Okay, just because I had my order delivered, albeit it took long, I will still recommend that you take caution when buying online. Try to get feedback from others you know who have encountered the same company and investigate further. I learned my lesson well. The next time there is a major deal happening in Cobone, I may want to take a rain check and see if the distributor behind the deal is really legit and can commit to a promised delivery. Throw in some good customer service too!

Caution On Online Shopping

I have nothing against online shopping. In fact, I have been shopping online since 2000. I am guilty as charged! However, I felt like I got burned on my last purchase in Cobone deals here in Dubai. They are currently running an electronics deal so I purchased an Apple Macbook Pro for a price which is significantly less than the retail price in Apple Store and other authorized Apple dealers here. Who would miss such  savings, right? Not me.

I bought the deal last 22 May and Cobone promptly facilitated the request and payment on the same day. In fairness, Cobone has done an excellent job on sending the voucher quickly as they have done in my past purchases. This, I thought, was just one of those purchases I have done in their site only a higher ticket this time. The company behind the deal, Multimindsit.com, is the main culprit in all the hassles I have been facing lately. They wrote me last May 23 acknowledging my order and that delivery would take place between 3 to 7 business working days.

Last Wednesday, 30 May, I decided to follow up thinking my order might be delivered anytime soon since the 7 days would lapse on 3 June. I spoke to a staff and was told that the product was scheduled that day. So, I patiently waited and even went home early to personally receive the order. It was already 3:30 p.m. and no sign of any delivery nor a call from the delivery man. I called the company again to check. The same lady I spoke to earlier said that it would be scheduled again the next day, 31 May. So I waited and nothing came. I called the company in the afternoon and was told that they would hold a special delivery on Saturday, 2 June.  The whole day of June 2 went by without a sign of any delivery. So, I called again the very next day which was on Sunday of 3 June. The same lady was surprised that I did not get any delivery. That's when I thought to myself that if she said that my product was scheduled for delivery, how come no one informed her that nobody called me from their company nor someone delivered my laptop? Alarms sounded off. I began to think that the deal was bogus. I asked again when I could receive my Macbook. She put me on hold for what seemed like an eternity only to be promised again that it would be done on the same day until evening. So, you should see the pattern by now. Of course, no call of delivery, no Macbook.

June 4 - Monday, my heart was palpitating because I felt I was being duped already. I called again. As usual, the same lady picked up the line. I asked her what happened to the delivery and again, she was surprised. Obviously, there was no coordination in their part. So I asked her if there was really a product or was I just being scammed. She was apologetic and told me that she was just telling me what was on their list. I asked for her superiors but unfortunately, one is on vacation and the other comes in the afternoon. I asked her to tell her boss to call me right away because even when I was following up through the phone, I was also sending follow up emails from the confirmation mail they sent me last 23 May.  And no one from their company bothers to respond nor call. Some guy called me in the afternoon around 2:30 p.m. that my Macbook would be delivered that day and maximum the next day around afternoon. The company even sent me an email to confirm that my Macbook would be delivered the same day, if not the next day. Well, you guessed it. I didn't receive any call yesterday until evening nor have seen any delivery. As of this writing, I have not received my "promised" Macbook yet. I decided to escalate the matter to the Government of Dubai under the board of Consumers Rights. I raised an official complaint and also called Cobone today to tell them of the fraud.

I am appreciative of how Cobone is handling the matter. However, even if the manager of Cobone gave her word to me that I would get my Macbook today (obviously, I did not!), I just decided to get a refund.

I hope to get my money back and this time I hope I don't get any hiccups. I feel so sad because one company ruined my trust on online shopping. I was just wondering if there is actually a product behind their deals. If there are, shouldn't they be ready for this massive deal? If they ran out of stock, at least inform the clients so we're not left in the dark waiting for a delivery that never happens!

So beware of Multimindsit.com. They have promising deals and really at a good price compared to the retail price in the stores. The question is, will you get what you actually paid for? My answer - NO. So, don't buy from them. If you do, then "I told you so" is all I can say. That's all!
