Easy@Home Areta Pulse Oximeter Review #AretaFingertipPulseOximeter

** I received this product for free in exchange of my unbiased review. My feedback is 100% mine and may vary from yours.

The Easy@Home Areta Pulse Oximeter lives up to its name - Easy@Home because it is easy to use. However, for those who are new to this type of gadget, you may wonder what oximeter is and its uses. Here's the rundown on what an oximeter is and its uses.

An oximeter is an instrument used to check the levels of oxygen in the haemoglobin. It is used to gauge the oxygen level for those with Coronary Heart Failure, asthma, lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

It is a commonly used instrument in the hospitals and can now be used even at home especially for those who requires to monitor their oxygen levels.

What I like:

It is really easy to use. I had to read the manual just to have a better understanding of how it works and what the values represent when my pulse is taken.

It is small and lightweight that I can carry it with me if I need to check my oxygen level. I have asthma and this can come very handy especially on my travels.

The orientation of the small monitor screen display can go from portrait to landscape just by pushing the main "gray" button. Settings are also adjusted using the same button just by pressing it in various intervals.

The display is clear and bright which displays the numbers in big and bright light blue colour. So, you can take the reading even if the lights are off or in a dim room.

The instrument takes measurements in less than few seconds. I placed my index finger and few seconds after, it has already taken the measurement and displayed my reading in less than 30 seconds.

It comes with free lanyard, protective case, 2 AAA batteries and a manual.

It's not very bulky.

It has smooth padding where you put your finger for reading. It doesn't hurt a bit.

What I don't like:
Nothing.

Where to buy:
The Easy@Home Areta Pulse Oximeter is available in Amazon.

My recommendation:
I highly recommend this gadget especially to those who needs to check their oxygen levels regularly. It is easy to use and very compact so you can take it with you wherever you go.

Transition From Real Cigarettes To Electronic Cigarettes

Are you one of those who vowed to quit smoking gradually without punishing yourself with the after effects of withdrawal? Do you plan to lessen your smoking or switch to a better option? If so, then you can always choose another way to smoke with lesser nicotine and no tobacco. Electronic cigarettes will be the best alternative to smoking the real deal.

Electronic cigarettes are small devices created to mimic the taste and feel of real cigarettes without the harmful tobacco and lesser to nil nicotine level depending on the type a smoker chooses. Its appearance is like a normal cigarette but you will see the difference when you see how the E cigs are disassembled, cleaned and batteries replaced or recharged as illustrated in the parts of the E cigs below.

There are various kinds of electronic cigarettes you can find in the market. The initial release of these electronic cigarettes was complicated and the designs were a bit outlandish. Electronic cigarettes these days look more like the real cigarettes minus the smoke. The newer models offer smokers the experience of smoking without the smoke. Some of the models of electronic cigarettes can help smokers gauge how much nicotine level they can infuse using various e-juice flavors produced by some manufacturers like the ones you will find in 21stcenturysmoke.com site.

Electronic cigarette producers have created wide assortment of flavors added to the e cigs. Smokers can choose from the common fruit flavors of peach, strawberry, apple, cherry and even grape. There are also other aromatic flavors to try such as chocolate, cappuccino, cola, cool menthol and vanilla. The infusion of flavors to e cigs makes the transition from the real cigarettes to electronic cigarettes more interesting. Smokers who have tried the transition prefer the e cigs better as they do not leave a bad taste in the mouth, no second hand smoking, no visual residue causing the teeth and nails to become yellow.

The effects of electronic cigarettes as compared to the real ones is better as smoking electronic cigarettes do not emit harmful smoke. People around the smoker will not suffer from second hand smoking. It is non-polluting and non-carcinogenic too.

Smokers may find the electronic cigarettes a better option to move away from the tobacco-laden cigarettes that are harmful to one's health. Smokers may think that it is a fake cigarette but the sensation and feeling of smoking the real one can still be experienced with the use of electronic cigarettes. Although the presence of nicotine is still found in the electronic cigarettes, the harmful ingredients of the real cigarettes can be abated.

In this hard times, getting a promotion is like shooting for the moon. You are lucky if you are given the chance to move up the ladder but if you are one of those workers who are trying their best to be recognized and improve their rank in the corporate world but unable to move up, the closest thing that can be satisfying and gratifying is to attend company sponsored trainings, seminars and workshops.

As learning and development is a continuous process and highly regarded by most companies. Take advantage of the opportunity presented to you if you are being nominated for a training. It really does not matter whether the training, workshop or seminar is in-house, as long as it is shouldered by the company then go for it.

Here are some valuable reasons why it is integral to your career progress to also undertake trainings and development workshop and courses:

  • It is a positive item to be added in your resume. If you are planning to move up the corporate ladder and take on higher positions. Going through trainings and workshops can put you in a positive edge in the competition.
  • It can enhance your skills and add more knowledge on areas where you wish to develop or brush up on information that you are not familiar with.
  • It can open up possible connection and build networking. You will meet various people in the company who may already be in the higher echelon of the company. They will see you performance during the group activities and those can open up other opportunities. Not only that, you will meet people across the company who may have skills and information that you want to know of. You can ask for mentoring or shadow in their area of concern.
  • It is fun. Group activities are very stimulating and you will discover many things from one’s personality to mentality to approach to situations to problem solving and decision making skills. You will definitely enjoy the change of usual dealing with your colleagues.
  • It builds up your social skills and confidence. I love attending trainings now. I used to be so shy whenever I attend one because I don't know the people around me. However, as I have gotten more accustomed to the environment of training, I enjoy it so much that I have trainings scheduled every other month and sometimes, twice a month. My confidence level really improved so much and all because of the exposure I had, all the presentations I had to make impromptu, the introduction, the question and answer forums. All these activities boosted my confidence that I don't feel conscious or even scared when in a training full of senior employees.

Training, seminars and workshops are all valuable tools in the corporate world. It is a good leverage to have in your career and not only that, the theories you will learn can also be applied into your personal life.

You come in empty handed but come out knowledgeable and more skilled. So, nominate yourself to trainings, seminars and workshops whether they are paid or not. If you can afford it then go for it. There is nothing to lose but more to gain.

How to Use Weight Loss Pills

Weight loss pills are dietary supplements that can contribute to shedding a few pounds. The website www.mtmbody.com can attest to the advantages of these pills. Although this is not a be-all, end-all solution, you can personally benefit from these supplements if you follow a diet and exercise regimen. Just be sure you know what the effects of the pills entail and what types of pills you should consider taking.

Benefits
Weight loss pills serve a few functions. With these pills, you can boost your metabolism, burn fat, and suppress your appetite. Your metabolism is what allows you to burn energy (and fat) efficiently. Increasing your metabolism will shed a few pounds by eliminating fat in your body. One thing that leads to weight gain is overeating. Naturally, if you refrain from eating too much due to a diminished appetite, you may lose weight. Plus, a suppressed appetite often leads to the body drawing on existing body fat to gain energy.

Types of Pills
There are a few different categories of weight loss supplements. One type is the carb blocker. People who crave carbohydrates might want to consider taking this pill. Carb blockers inhibit the enzyme that digests carbohydrates. As a result, the carbohydrates go right through you, and you can eat yummy breads and treats without retaining too many calories. Fat blockers are similar in function to carb blockers, only they obstruct fats from building up in your system. Consider taking a thermogenic weight loss pill as well. These pills serve to boost your metabolism and heighten your body temperature. Ingredients often include yohimba, caffeine, and Synephrine HCL, which emits adrenaline. You can also purchase thermogenics that are stimulant-free. Thyroid regulators work similarly to thermogenic supplements. In this case, metabolism is enhanced by the modified regulation of the thyroid gland. Many folks who feel fatigued during their diet recommend this type of supplement. Another weight loss pill is the cortisol blocker. Cortisol regulates the fat that builds in your body, particularly near your midriff. Sleep deprivation and the consuming of sugars are linked with the creation of cortisol in the body. A cortisol blocker will prevent fat accumulation if you encounter these factors. Last, there is the appetite suppressor. As mentioned before, if you eat too much, this product can cut down on your appetite. For more information, visit www.mtmbody.com.

Beetroot Juice - A Healthy Alternative to Sweet Juices

I used to do "juicing" before for almost half a year and stopped when I gave my juicer to my mom who needed it more than I did that time.  However, as one ages, you feel that all those abuses you have done directly or indirectly to your body will actually take its toll. And having hypertension is one of them.

I got this from a forwarded mail recently. I also asked around from friends who loves to drink natural juices if they have tried this particular beetroot juice. I am surprised that some of them did and the result was promising - a lesser blood pressure reading which bordered to the normal of 120/80 for adults. Then this is what I need.

Beetroot? Really? That earthy-smelling vegetable which varies from light purple to the deepest shade of that color? Yes, I have to try it. So, I did this morning. I juiced my first beetroot juice.

Well, let's just say that the smell is revolting. Imagine scooping water from puddles and filtering the soil and grains out? That's how it smelled like. The taste is another story. I know I can be a bit queasy with vegetable juices, I added 1/2 apple and 1/4 cup of water (I shouldn't have added water because it's not pure anymore but I want to know if I would actually drink it) and 1 big beetroot.

It has that earthy taste but since I added freshly juiced apple (1/2 slice), it tasted a wee bitter sweet. I think I can live with that.

I can overlook all the smell and taste for its numerous health benefits. Try juicing beetroot and you'll reap the health benefits of this succulent, purple/reddish root.

Join The Blog Workshop And Learn How To Reap The Many Rewards Of Blogging

I may have been blogging for the last 7 years but if I have to evaluate myself in terms of being knowledgeable about what blogging is all about, including the technicalities such as SEO, keywords, tags, and categories are concerned, I can grade myself as a newbie. I did not know then that I can reap the many rewards of blogging if I only knew how.

The stark reality of blogging for the main reason of getting my thoughts across the cyberspace was actually one of the few reasons I engaged myself in blogging. The other positive perks like earning on the side, meeting more bloggers as friends, increasing traffic and simply being out in the cyber world are just the extra benefits that goes in the territory of blogging.

I have joined plenty of bloggers' forum and groups and have learned so much about the other side of blogging as a passion and also a mean to generate more income, leverage your site in search engines and getting noticed by advertisers, brands and PRs. And all those I mentioned will be part of The Blog Workshop.

Chia Seeds - Small Seed With A Punch of Health Benefits

Chia seeds are slightly smaller than the sesame seeds. It is also known as Salvia Hispanica which is a part of the mint family, the Lamiacaea which is native to Guatemala and Mexico.

This tiny seed is cultivated for commercial use because of its high level of nutritional value. It has calcium, protein, manganese and phosphorus. Aside from the nutrients, it also has plenty of health benefits like:

  • It is a good source of plant's Omega fatty acid oil.
  • It is hydrophilic which means, it absorbs more water than their weight making you feel fuller. This is great for athletes as it helps them stay hydrated.
  • It aids in weight loss for dieters as chia seeds have the ability to block calories in our digestive system because it gels. And when it gels, it helps in blocking absorption of calories.
  • It also provides antioxidant properties.

9 Spices to Improve Health, Energy and Longevity

According to Dr. Maoshing of Ask Dr. Mao site, there are 9 spices to "spice" up our health, energy and longevity. It is best to update your pantries to include the following and why you should include these spices on your next stop to the nearest grocery.

Garlic
As pungent as it smells, it's potent effect in lowering blood pressure and helps ward off (not just Dracula!) bad cholesterol. It also acts as antibacterial so it is good in treating minor infections.

My father used to eat fresh garlic (at least 2 cloves only) when he had his heart attack as advised by the doctor. The garlic improved his health a great deal. Also, my recent vacation to Korea proved that garlic is indeed powerful. Garlic is also a staple in Korean dishes. No wonder, even the elderlies in Korea can still commute alone despite their age.

Cinnamon
I am not a fan of this spice. As a matter of fact, I try my best to avoid having this in my meal, drinks or desserts - if I can help it.

After reading Dr. Mao's article about this spice, I have changed my mind and decided to give this holiday-smelling spice a chance.

Cinnamon is said to lower blood sugar, improve blood pressure, lower cholesterol and improve brain function.  In addition to the many wonderful benefits of this spice, it is also great in detoxifying the system and fight bladder infections.

Curry
I don't have problem having this spice in my meal since I love eating Thai Curry Chicken and other viands prepared with curry and coconut milk.

This spice is very prominent in East Asia. My Indian friends here love preparing this food with a sprinkle of this tasty, yellowish powder.

Its benefits include improving the joints health, good anti-inflammatory aspect, anti-oxidant and helps prevent Alzheimer's disease due to its any-amyloid property. Amyloids are plaque-like proteins which builds up in the brain tissues responsible for causing Alzheimers Disease.

Star Anise
As the name suggests, it is indeed a star-shaped spice. I have seen this spice when I have chicken biryani. Although I don't eat the star-shaped spice, I do love the flavor it adds up to the biryani meal.

This pretty-looking spice is not only flavorful, it helps ward off rheumatism, aid digestion and boosts immune system.

Cardamom
Okay, I am biased on this one because I really don't like this spice. It does not taste bad. In fact, it does taste flowery (that's how I perceive the taste to be) but it affects my buds when I eat something else even after I have brushed my teeth.

Cardamom is great in tea and again, my Indian friends prepare their chai with cardamom milk. Taste funny but it's actually good.

This spice has the ability to improve circulation and boosts one's energy level. Not only that, it helps improve asthma, bronchitis, halitosis, moods and is even considered an aphrodisiac in the Middle East. No wonder I see a lot of people here drinking cardamom milk! ;)

Clove
I haven't tasted this spice yet. I don't think I ever recall buying this spice when I cook meals at home. I think, the closest I get to having this at home is when I buy clove oil to cure my daughter's tooth ache which actually works!

Chewing clove will help alleviate tooth aches, sore throats, diarrhea and stomach cramps.

Cumin
Here is another spice I am not familiar with. Although there are plenty of cumin here in the Middle East, I really haven't tried incorporating this spice in my dishes yet. I think I should in the future!

Cumin boosts immune system and improves liver function. It helps reduce flatulence and aids digestion.

Fennel Seed
This spice is good in aiding digestion and helps soothe the nervous system. This is a great spice to mix with recipes for meats, beans and legumes.

Ginger
A nice and rather spicy spice is ginger. I love having this in my Chinese dishes especially when I am preparing chicken and shrimps.

Ginger is great in relieving nausea, arthritis, headaches, menstrual cramps and muscle soreness. Also, whenever I get itchy throat or feel like I am going to come down with a flu or have tonsilitis, I boil a fist-sized ginger with 3 cups of water and drink the ginger broth. It really helps and soothes my dry throat and wards off tonsilitis.

These spices are really beneficial; however, if you are considering having these spices to cure some of your ailment, it is wise to consult your physician. Example, garlic is good in itself if you have high blood pressure but if you are going to take ginger too as combination, it may thin you blood so much. Also, do not treat yourself on your own especially when combining spices. If you are going to have an operation then it is advisable not to take garlic, ginger or any spice which helps in lowering blood pressure.

Sweat it Out

The weather is awful right now. I miss running outside. I think I will not be able to stand the heat outside for a minute, what more an hour? It is like walking past an open oven door. That is the kind of heat we experience here in Dubai.

So, last Thursday, I decided to use the building's gym. The feeling I have when running outside is never the same when you do it indoors. However, I just have to do it than miss my regular exercise regime.

The air condition unit was already on in the gym and yet the heat outside seeped in. It is like being inside a hot sauna. Well, the plus side was, it gave me a quick weight loss boost because I perspired a lot.

I used to dread the idea of me getting soaked with my own sweat. However, perspiring is our body's natural way of releasing our body heat or else we suffer from heat stroke. Sweating is also a good way to release the toxins in our body. It also improves your skin by washing away dead cells and helps unclog pores.

Health Nut - Mulberry Tea

I just bought 2 boxes of Mulberry Tea from Bangkok. My friend has recommended it to me. She swears by its potent health benefits. I was a little dubious because I never heard of Mulberry tea before. I checked the Internet and found out that it is indeed very beneficial in one's health. The following are some of the benefits of drinking Mulberry tea:

1. Has the ability to block sugars. So, it is a good drinking option for diabetic people.

2. Helps in reducing hypertension

3. Aids in eliminating bad cholesterol

4. Serves as an anti-oxidant

5. Relieves constipation, cough, colds

6. Helps cure anemia

7. Acts as diuretic by flushing fluids and toxins from the body

8. Contains high levels of potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosporus

I should have bought the entire shelf of Mulberry tea while I was in Bangkok! It is so hard to find this kind of tea here in Dubai and even in the Philippines.

So, if you can find one, do try it for your health's sake.

Essential Fats

My husband and I just bought a kilo of tilapia a while ago. We love eating fish specially the one I mentioned. My daughter asked why we always have to eat fish at least twice or thrice in a week. I told her it is because fish contains essential fatty acids which are good for human consumption. I also "educated" her slightly on the benefits of duet dha which is good for developing babies. I told her that when she was still a baby, I always fed her and at the same time, consumed fish meat for brain and eyes development.

She was amazed. I think she will not mind having fish like salmon, herring, trout and other oily fish in her added on her regular meals.

The Art of Meditation

In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, do we still find time to focus on our inner "self" and give calm and order to a chaotic life? Well, I asked myself that because my stress level has reached its peak lately. I have been having upset stomach for days on end; my hyper-acidity is causing havoc again; and my back is painful. A lot of factors have been contributing to all these nuisances and I just want to have a time out.

I haven't meditated for a long time now. I almost forgot how. But I am a creature of habit so recalling how I used to meditate in times like this comes back easily because it is already inherent to me.

When escaping physically seems to be an impossible feat to achieve, just have a time out and meditate. Here's how to do it:

1. Go inside your room or a quiet place. When you live with other people and you think you will be unable to meditate with someone staring at you, just go inside your bathroom. Place a clean mat and sit there. I always do that!

2. Dim the lights or draw the curtains.

3. Use scented candles or essences if you like but make sure you don't place that next to the curtain or instead of meditating, you'll end up putting out a fire!

4. Close your eyes and visualize.

5. Do some chanting or say something over and over. My best line is always this "I am in control. I am in control..."

6. Take a deep breathe. Breathe in and out. Each time you do that, savor every breath you take like it is your last.

These work for me and I am sure there are more ways to do meditation apart from what I have shared. Try it and you'll be amazed by the peace that will permeate your life after that.
