Navigating Emotions For Parents by Amy Phoenix

I can say I'm guilty of losing my cool out to my daughter when I get upset sometimes.  That's very bad and I'm sorry that I have done that in some instances. I won't be hypocrite but there are times that you just don't mind your temper anymore because you're having a bad day. But what I learned after reading this book is, am I being safe to myself and to those that I love with my emotions especially when I'm upset and mad? And before even reading this ebook, my answer was "no."

After reading this book I have learned many things about handling emotions when I am about to explode. It is paramount to safeguarding ourselves when we are not in our best because we can hurt others with our words and we can hurt ourselves too in the process and the kids that we love.

This book highlights many aspects in human emotions that as parents, we tend to oversee and ignore because yes, we are parents, we are the authority. This book will help you  tackle the situation when you find yourself about to get mad and simmer down into various levels so you can acknowledge that disappointment or anger and be safe with your emotions.

I highly recommend this book because there is so much to learn. I don't want to spill too many information so parents out there can get this book and read it for themselves. It is filled with information on how to deal with your emotions and how to let it go properly without having to hurt the feelings of those people you love, especially the kids. And by knowing what to do with your emotions, you can have more beautiful quality time with your children.

You can find out more information about this ebook here:  http://presenceparenting.com/navigating-emotions-ebook/

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Book Review: Tough Guys and Drama Queens

I never thought that raising a teenager is like riding a roller coaster. One minute, you're up and the next thing you know, you're emotions are all going down the drain. That's how it feels like dealing with my own daughter.

I am glad I got this free book. I thought I was prepared to enter the battle but I was totally wrong. This book gave me the insights on how to deal with my own teenager and to be able to come out of the battle victorious.

The author, Mark Gregstons, uses picturesque words to describe the ordeals of dealing with a teenager and his tips on how to tackle unwarranted behavior, dangerous activities and malicious curiosity of today's teens.

The book presents viable tips to parents to reinforce positive relationships with their own teens and how to cope with their volatile behavior. Not only that the book is full of advise, tips and wisdom coming from a man who dealt with every face of teen angst and rebellion, and explains everything through his eyes as a founder and councilor of Heartlight, a center for teens with issues.

I highly recommend this book to parents who have teens or even those who have none as a means to better understand today's youth.

The book was given to me complimentary by Thomas Nelson Publication via Booksneeze.com.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com <http://BookSneeze®.com> book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255

Cost Of Raising A Child

Young married couples these days are either postponing having children or opting not to have one because of the cost of raising a child.

I remember my own parents lecturing me about having to face a very huge responsibility when I get married and have a child of my own because my role as a parent will not be just a care-taker and a guardian but a provider as well. I almost balked at the thought but then, having a child is one of the greatest gift a parent can ever have.

This is the reality we have to face for choosing to be parents. The info below will give you, future parents and for the curious, an insight on the cost of raising a child.

My Daughter is Turning 14

Time flies and it flies fast! It seems like yesterday when I was holding my baby's hand and in few days, she will be 14.

I am already in a place where I tell myself to accept things as they come because one day, that tiny baby I held so close to my heart will one day become a woman. She will meet her man and she will leave us. I don't know if I am just being melodramatic but I think, this is what being a mom is - dramatic.

I take a deep sigh now when I hear my daughter talk to her friends. I am starting to miss those fun times we have where we used to play like little girls. She is an adolescent now and her likes are no long the same Barbie and Bratz dolls she used to love few years ago. She has new set of friends, activities here and there and more phone calls than a call center can ever handle. Yes, I have a teen-aged daughter and soon she will be 14.

I think I am just being sentimental and drama-queen but I kind of miss her playful pranks when she was younger, her slobbery kisses on my and her papa's cheeks, her drawings posted on our closets and the free hugs we get each time we come home. We still get those hugs but they come far in between now. Later on, it will just be "Hi mom! Hi dad!" kind of thing.

Well, that's the way life goes. I can only pray that my husband and I did not fall short in guiding her and imparting wisdom and instilling good values. I also pray that she will grow into a responsible adult, a God-fearing child and a daughter her parents will be so proud of.

Happy birthday our little girl. I know you're not a baby anymore but in our eyes, you're always be our little girl. Enjoy and have fun on your special day.

Best Mom Award from Best Moms themselves

I am thankful to have met these two lovely moms in the blog world. I am happy as well that I have been recognized by these two best moms as well for being a best mom. Thanks ladies! I truly honor this award. Beth and Kikamz, you two rock! Hahaha!

The rules:
1. Show the award logo in your post. 2. Pick a picture you have with your kiddo/s. 3. Post should include your best experience as a Mom. 3. Nominate other blogger moms out there that you consider the best mom, like yourself.

Well, being a mom is a 24/7 career. It's a very gratifying job if I may say because you get all the hugs and the slobbery kisses of your kids. Everyday is a best mom day for me even if my daughter and I squabble on petty things. We enjoy each other's company so much that she has become my little buddy, my shopping conscience, my mini-me, my fashion stylist, my royal highness, my hairdresser, my own daughter... We enjoy our togetherness that sometimes I forget the boundaries of mother-daughter stuff, forgetting all those authority over a child. For her, I am her mom AND her best friend and for me, I am her mom AND her best friend. I'll never forget the time when I got bed-ridden because of pneumonia and she carefully stroked my forehead, took a bowl filled with cold water and she wiped my face, cleaned my arms and legs. She acted as my nurse and she even made me a paper TULIP (which happens to be my favorite flower!) so I could get better. This was last year. I asked her why she was taking care of me when she could watch cartoons and read books instead of sitting by my side, she said "Mama, because you always take care of me too..." Awwwww... No other job in this world can ever replace the gratifying career of MOTHERHOOD. I am blessed to be a mom.

Our fave place in the world! Paris! My daughter loved the place and even quipped that when she gets older, she'd buy a house and we would ALL live there. Wow! Made my heart melt...

This was our first Disneyland visit in Hongkong and the year after that, we went to Disneyland Paris. I remember seeing how happy my princess was, the sparkle in her eyes each time we took the rides and hubby was so supportive of us, allowing us (especially me!) to act-out the kid in us. Imagine a 34 year-old (I was 34 then when we went there) mom running around like crazy just to get ahead of the line? Oh, that would be me!

Buzz Lightyear ride in Hongkong Disneyland. We had fun shooting those aliens. We're both "kids-at-heart." Well, at least my daughter is a bonafide kid. I am NOT!

Shopping at Siam Paragon, Bangkok, Thailand. My daughter is my "shopping conscience" because she always reminds me when to "stop." ;)

I am giving this award to the special moms I know: Cherry, Mommy Liza, Mommy Ana, Sarah, Niko, Chriss, Shiela

Arf, Arf!

Nope, not the barking of a dog nearby but that of my daughter. She isn't barking but coughing like a small pup. I had to skip my class today to take care of her because she's coughing like crazy.

Stuff like this really throws me off the balance. One moment I am a career woman making decisions and the other moment, I am a mom, worried-sick of her little child.

I hope my baby feels better soon. I can't stand seeing her cough her guts out.

Amy Poehler is a "Smart Girl"

I find Amy Poehler a very comical lady with a great sense of humor. I watch her in Saturday Night Live with Tina Fey as they relentlessly make fun of iconic figures. And boy, they do deliver with aplomb and great laughter! To see her do comical takes and funny impersonation of some political and even famous people makes my day.

Well, Amy Poehler is not just a joke-cracker. She is also a good actress in the movies, although most roles she play are funny ones. Here, in Cozmo TV, she is one of the inspirations behind the Smart Girls at the Party. I get to see a more serious Amy Poehler in these web series that she created together with another Amy and Meridith. This web series is a great site for young people and their parents alike as it fosters the raw talents of young minds and establish good interaction for parents and kids as well. It is very wholesome and entertaining. It is like a breath of fresh air after watching programs in the media which only depict negativity and violence. This is something parents and their kids should be watching.

If you want to watch the episodes, you can get your own widget here or visit their site.

Below is a trailer of her web series:

Baby P - The Innocent Angel

It took me sometime to gather myself and write this post since this hurts deeply and has rattled the very core of my being as a mother. I know, most of you have read the tragic event that lead to the death of Baby P on the hands of his very own mother, boyfriend and a lodger. He died last year but the gruesome facts emerged only recently causing an uproar. How? How can a mother do such things to an innocent being, more so, to her very own son and why? He was 17 months old.

I am enraged just by reading the atrocious accounts that lead to the early demise of Baby P. I cannot fathom the evilness of the people who are responsible in cutting the life of this beautiful baby short on their hands. I am angry at the system and the people who oversee the system of child care in that country. I am feeling a lot of intense emotion right now but I need to voice this out. NO PUNISHMENT IS ENOUGH TO ALLEVIATE THE SUFFERING OF AN INNOCENT CHILD.

Baby P, the little cherub, may you find the peace that you deserve and feel the love that has been selfishly denied of you here on earth there in Heaven where you can no longer feel pain. We are all praying for you. Fly away little angel...
